This reading and writing lesson is one part of our complete Persian language course. Lessons 1-25 of reading and writing are available on our website (www.chaiandconversation.com/read-write-persian). By the end of the course, you will be able to read and write in the Persian language. We also have over 80 lessons that teach you conversational Persian (www.chaiandconversation.com/lessons). In those lessons, we use phonetic English spelling, so you don't have to be able to read and write Persian before learning to speak it conversationally!

In this lesson, we focus on a new letter, ف which has a different form than letters we've learned before. This letter sounds like 'fé.' We learn how this letter interacts with our vowel sounds, and use it to write different words such as

فیل feel (elephant)
فَرش farsh (rug)
فَردا fardā (tomorrow)

At 10:27, why is دو transcribed (and pronounced) as "dō" rather than "doo/du" if it is written with the full واو rather than the diacritic پیش?
