Exhilaration, inspiration, determination and moments of terror. I'm not sure if those experiences are more important than observing wildlife, watching water alter a landscape, taking in stunning vistas or visualizing the stories a rock or tree might tell of the ancient world. Still, they are not easily forgotten. Some moments demand focus and test your skills, making comparisons of your favorite places disappear as demands are placed on you at the present. The primordial mind is one I find myself discovering in places like this lush and unspoiled region, one of the largest of its type in Colorado. The risks are plainly visible, but understanding fear when it displays itself vividly can spur you to press through it one cautious foothold at a time.
