Making ceramic and pottery glass coasters from all recycled clear glass. In this video we go through the entire process of throwing the coasters, to glazing the coasters, to breaking up the glass into pieces to finally laying all the pieces in and putting them into the kiln to fire them.

You won't find any cooler coasters than these, as the glaze underneath shines through the crystal looking glass to have a gorgeous finished piece.

PLEASE BE AWARE : Pieces of glass are sharp and can cut you. Do NOT attempt this project without gloves, experience working with glass and pottery material, and adult supervision.

We are not responsible for anyone trying to do this project, try it out at your own risk!

I am a retired pottery instructor. Many of my students wanted to add glass to very shallow bowls, similar to what you are doing. They wanted them for jewelry trays. Since the glass left little raised edges that would cause cuts, I had them add a thin layer of resin to deal the surface. Worked great!
  • Square coasters are like square pizza boxes for circle pizzas that we cut into triangles.
  • Another disclaimer for everyone’s benefit, particularly for Jon...wear safety glasses when breaking the glass. Surprised by how little glass is actually needed. Jon, love your videos! Keep ‘em coming!

Came for pottery, stayed for personality!

Square coasters? No waste. One big sheet. Cut down, then across. Not saying that square is better, or more artistic than round coasters. Just sayin, I believe, cheaper to manufacture. By the way, I enjoyed the fideo.

Dude your energy is intoxicating 😄 I wanna go make stuff just watching you make stuff. Giving me the artist itch man!
  • I make chandeliers, wind chimes, Mobiles, and different things out of glass I find in creeks, and lakes. It kinda pains me to see such little precautions used. I use gloves, googles and long sleeved shirts always when working with glass. Another precaution is I pick up the glass when it’s freshly broken with pliers because you don’t know how sharp the glass will be.

I love how Minnesotan you are, it’s so nice hearing someone from the same place as me in a video!

Hi, at what temperature do you fire when you use the glass? Do you do it with bowls too or does it go funny between the bottom and the edges if it's not completely flat? Thanks!!

A circle coaster is a saucer... right? 😵

Such a great video thanks. I’ve searched for fb groups doing this and someone recommended you. Wow such energy and inspiration to go out of my comfort zone.
