June 6 2006 is a date burned into the minds of every RuneScape player. What should have been a day of joy and elation at Cursed You's House Party for becoming the first person to 99 Construction turned into one of fear and terror once the fresh hiscore-topper expelled several hundred players from their house.

No one was safe as open world PVP - the deadliest glitch RuneScape had ever seen - saw people struck down from Rimmington to Falador, and even Edgeville. This is the story of the most famous event in RuneScape history. This is the story of Cursed You... and Durial321.

00:00 Introduction
02:21 Chapter 1: The Construction King
12:41 Chapter 2: The House Guest
18:41 Chapter 3: The Bug
25:40 Chapter 4: Massacre
41:11 Chapter 5: Emergency in Cambridge
45:15 Chapter 6: The Aftermath

The fact that it happened on 6/6/6 by pure chance is like poetry.

The grainy CCTV of Durial walking into the bank to gear up alone deserves some kind of award
  • I was one of the people killed during this bug. I had all of my valuable items on me and all of my cash as I was booted from the House. I lost everything. I cried my eyes out then quit RS for several years. It's such a throwback watching this whole event unfold.

Huge amount of respect for the PvP guy trying to protect people right as duriel was banking his items
  • The fact that someone managed to capture Durial running into the bank at 32:00 essentially gearing up for the massacre is insane!
  • @minalt9242
When you found the clip of Durial returning to the Falador bank and highlighted it like a real crime episode... LOVED IT

Man. Middle school (04-05) was such a shit time in my life but being able to look forward to playing RS when I got home made it so much better. This game will always have a special place in my heart.
  • I have never played a single minute of runescape, nor have I ever heard of this incident, yet you kept me hooked for an entire hour. I love watching deep dives about things I know nothing about simply because the person explaining it is doing it in an intriguing and entertaining way. Great job, thank you for being my Saturday night entertainment!

God Ash really hopped into the whip and rode into the office at 2 am to crank out massacre ending code in less than 2 hours so that his night shift homies could finally get some sleep

Durial321 is proof that you can be at the right place at the right time and have your namesake etched on the wall of history as a result

It’s good that Jagex embraced this event. It’s a gaming legend and one of many examples of how MMO players can take the game beyond what the devs ever imagined.
  • This was really well made. Rare to find hour long gaming documentaries about a single topic that can be entertaining and worthwhile to understand the history of a game we all love
  • @AntVenom
This was absolutely fantastic! I started playing shortly after this event, and I honestly didn’t know the majority of this information! The real reason it happened was pretty fascinating to learn about too, along with the route Durial took that day. Really solid investigating!
  • @hi00118
4 hours from the start of the house party to removing the glitch is pretty damn impressive honestly
  • The craziest part for me was that Durial tried to join Reign Of Terror. That's actually crazy because that clan is STILL active in OSRS. Like, damn, I feel like that clan needs its own documentary as well, considering it looks like its been around since the very start of RuneScape as a whole and as I remember its also done a load of shady stuff.
  • @alviiiie
When you pointed out Durial running into east Falador bank, I verbally gasped and said "oh shiT"
  • @Polma360
I am Polmerbat, the one who recorded some of these clips literally 16 years ago. Crazy how you dug these clips up when I don’t even have them anymore! I remember posting it to RuneScape Community back then, must have surfaced from there!
  • @22locor
Had to catch my jaw from slowly making its way to the floor when you started getting into the nitty-gritty of all of the mechanics involved in making this event actually occur. It's insane how such a precise and niche chain of events lined up like that.

this is really an ode to how raw runescape really was. being a young kid on this game exposed you to armor trimming scams, players emoting as female characters for gp in varrock square, and losing everything you worked so hard for to a boss or if you were unlucky enough... this bug. the golden era was really the trenches and im sure most of us can agree that we learned a lot of life lessons early on due to the nature of this game. thank you for all the research you put in this video could not be any better!
