Lower TPO Antibodies With These 6 Treatments

Is it possible to lower TPO antibodies if you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis? The answer is yes, but it's not guaranteed. We will talk more about that in just a minute but for now I want you to keep the following in mind:

1. The treatments we are going to discuss work for more than just TPO antibodies. They will also be beneficial for those with thyroglobulin antibodies and even TSI antibodies in Graves' disease. This is because antibodies stem from immune dysfunction and many of these treatments balance the immune system.

2. Just because these treatments have been shown to help others doesn't mean they will automatically work for you. It will take some trial and error to figure out what works best for your body.

3. Even though antibodies are never normal and your goal should be to get your antibodies as close to zero as possible, don't stress if you can't get there.

With this in mind, here are 6 treatments that are effective at lowering thyroid antibodies:

1. Nigella sativa. This is the plant that produces black seeds which are then used to create black seed oil. This plant has been shown to have a pro-thyroid effect, a thyroid antibody-lowering effect, and a benefit to fat mass.

2. LDN or low-dose naltrexone. LDN is used off-label to treat inflammatory conditions and is effective for about 50% of people who use it.

3. Diet. Many diets are effective but some of my favorites include gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and whole30.

4. Vitamin D. Taking vitamin D by itself won't be enough to lower your thyroid antibodies but it can help when it's part of a complete treatment regimen. Use it in conjunction with the other treatments listed here.

5. Selenium. Selenium helps protect your thyroid gland from inflammation and is great for those with Hashimoto's if they are selenium deficient.

6. Testosterone, androgens, or DHEA. Androgens are a "secret" treatment that can help balance the immune system. Women can use low dose testosterone replacement therapy if their testosterone is low.

I prayed and the intense swollen thyroid on the left side completely went away... Praise the Lord.

Hello! I am using Nigella Sativa for 8 weeks and my TG (thyroid antibodies) went down from 590 to 220! It is definitely working! 😊

I had some luck with lowering my TPO antibodies in a six month period but I stopped what I was doing and it went back up. I am doing this again but since then I have learned more about this. I started at TPO antibodies at 154. I started taking 20,000 I.U.s of vitamin D3 per day plus I removed dairy and cut out all vegetable oils. My TPO antibodies went from 154 to 100 in three months. The next three months, it went from 100 to 60. However for some dumb reason, I quit what I was doing and ate regular again. The antibodies went up. I did some reading and now I really believe it is caused by Leaky Gut. That is the beginning point. You just have to fix that. I believe you do that with a long fast with water only past three days. I am about to do a five day fast. I am basing it off this story on what happened to this woman. Her fasting sealed the gut lining. She had done two long fasts within six months. Her Hashimoto's was gone and three years later she said it was still gone.
  • I'm so frustrated with my endocrinologist who is only focusing on my thyroid and failed to address any of these neither listen to her patient. Almost 9 months I don't feel better she kept increasing the tyrosine dosage. I decided to go for second opinion with another endocrinologist. When I set infront of him I realised it was biggest mistake to see him. He was telling hashimoto autoimmune thyroiditis is not a rocket science. Just take your medication. In fact he increased my daily dosage. These doctors don't want their patients to be cured. They wanted to ensure they have permanent income from ATM machine call as patient. Very depressing nowadays doctors not only not listening to their patients experience despite working within the templates. I truly wish I can find one reliable endocrinologist 😢
  • I'm so glad that you said tpo antibodies at any level are never normal. So many doctors have made me feel like I'm crazy when I tell them how I feel after they say my thyroid is functioning normally but have abnormally high tpo levels.

The main impediments to treating low thyroid are doctors. Most are stuck on TSH levels and Rx with T4. Even many Endocrinologists can be difficult to work with. Arm yourself with good info and have serious discussion with your Dr. I found that finding a good Naturopathic Dr to be beneficial. One more note, if you supplement with D3 you should also take K2 MK-7. Thank you Dr Childs for your great info. You have confirmed what I have learned over the past few years of living with Hashimoto for 40 years.

First thing I did was a colon cleanse which immediately turned my TSH levels normal. Then I added a squeezed lemon daily with ACV and Chaga as a hot beverage. Still have a normal thyroid. My diet is clean.
  • Diet and supplements brought my TPO to 1 and Thyroglobulin to 11. Still trying to lower a bit but happy w these numbers! No gluten and 98% soy free for years now
  • @Gigi-kr6ek
I've always read that , to fight off cancer you want your vitamin d levels at least at 80
  • LDN was not effective for me, but Thymosin Alpha 1 injections cut my inflammation in HALF in only 3 months. Taking 200 Mg of😮 Selenium was added and I felt better. My skin lesions have finally started to heal!
  • @lissarx2459
I took testosterone for a short time due to low levels as prescribed by my gynecologist and experienced hair loss as a woman. I later had this confirmed a few months later by my dermatologist who said he had seen many women lose hair on testosterone.
  • @Milagroscrs
I have been using LDN 4 mg for last 3 years and it really has helped me modulate my eating habits, I attribute my weight loss and my low TPO to the use of LDN. Fortunately I am one of the lucky ones, even my Dr was amazed at how well LDN managed my inflammation and pain! Thank you Dr Child’s i learned of this from you! You always provide wonderful information!
  • @marys6866
These are good strategies and have worked for me at least. The best thing I found was going gluten free. I felt better within a week or two (brain fog lifted and have more energy), and combined with vit D, selenium and healthy whole food diet my antibodies are almost gone after 6-12 months. I have also been working on reducing inflammation e.g. gut bacteria and fish oil supplements, reducing sugar and carbs, better sleep, exercise etc.
  • @theideaplace
NAC also increases Glutathione levels... also MACA is said to increase testosterone
  • I love your content! But I wish you could post the links to the studies you quote so we could read them and I could show them to my endocrinologist 😊
  • @SamTheGirl210
HI DR. Childs, I just found this and am determined to get some improvement. I'll try your suggestions and come back if I have questions. Thank you for doing this. It really helps those of us who have been disappointed by our doctors' lack of concern or just apathy and behaving as if only Rx will do. Thank you
  • @GwenMotoGirl
LDN is great for me. 5 years now and stabilized on 4.5 mg per evening. But I’ve also eaten properly for me for the past 14 years, which helped so much. LDN was a great lever for me, and diet was key, too, which is zero sugar, zero grains and grain substitutes, zero starchy foods, zero soy, and ultimately, very very low carb. From April to October, I optimize my vitamin d levels with sun exposure. I supplement the rest of the year, but I feel best with the sun. I take Lugol’s iodine daily, but I ramped it up very slowly, I use topical testosterone and oral DHEA, both prescribed by my doctor and compounded at a compounding pharmacy, same providers who prescribe my LDN. All of this took a few years to work out, but it’s so worth it. I love my life now. You’re the only doctor talking about these helpful levers. Thank you for talking about this.

I was diagnosed with Graves, but the doctor said I did not need medication yet. I cannot lose weight! I feel like I have more signs of hashimotos than graves, but lab work shows graves. I have been taking Thyroid Calm, Lemon Balm, selenium, B- Complex, Vitamin C, Zinc, vitamin D. My vital signs have normalized, no more tachycardia or high blood pressure.
  • @NarsilRenewed
Wow, never knew this about testosterone and DHEA, THANK YOU Dr. Childs!
