Driving on the Loop 202 - South Mountain Freeway

Published 2024-01-07
Thirty years in the making, the $2 billion, 22-mile/35 km Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway was Arizona’s largest-ever single highway project and the first to utilize a public-private partnership. With over 117,000 travelers a day, the Loop 202 Freeway is an important connector for business and commerce in the state.

The mountains you see in the distance after I merge onto the 202 are the Estrella Mountains. For some good pictures and information about those mountains you can google Estrella Mountains. Estrella in Spanish means star.

Nice KUKQ (1060) and KDJQ (1510)-related soundtrack, by the way.

Wow! They still doing the turn lane on 7th Ave and 7th St as additional reverse lane during morning and evening rush hour?

I am a Roadgeek who has been following the development of the Phoenix Freeway System since the 1970s, and I don't live in the region. Maricopa County has done a wonderful job in co-ordination with ADOT to deliver a World-Class Freeway System to Phoenix. Beauty, efficiency, functionality, financial sustainability, and most importantly, mobility. Maricopa County does a good job with their transportation taxes.
