Nothing in this life would be purchased faster than a chrono trigger remake.

RIP - Akria Toriyama. Chrono Trigger was my first real introduction to his work, and I associate this game, soundtrack, and characters with his work.
  • @SSSnakePlisken
My brother actually named his daughter Ayla. He just didn't tell his wife where the name came from and she happened to like it.
  • Chrono Trigger was my first RPG so I’d buy a remake faster than you could blink.

See, the thing is, one thing Chrono Trigger did really well is that it was concise. Especially now in an era of multi-hundred hour RPGs, Chrono Trigger's 20-30 hour run is so refreshing. So, I really wouldn't want them to add too much new content in a remake. But, I do like the idea of adding little party interactions now and then.

I was just reading that Akira Toriyama was still working on projects before his passing. I can only wonder if he was able to work on it before we lost this phenomenal legend. My heart is very sad, but I would love to see a cute reference added to the end of a new ending! Similar to what he added as an Easter Egg for his own children <3 The message at the end of the game, coming from the depiction of Mr Toriyama himself reads: 'Heeey! Sasuke! Kikka! Pop's working on games like this! Hey are you guys watching? Isn't this great?' Thank you for sharing - I'm really looking forward to seeing what is to come.
  • The theory I always heard was that Schala was the intended final team member, and was the reason Magus doesn't have any dual techs, because they would have all been with her. Whether that's true of not, playable Schala is the number one thing I would want from a remake, just ahead of human Glenn Speaking of which: Frog turning in to Glenn is so weird in the original game. There's a version of the ending, if you kill Magus, where he's there at the dimensional gate as a human with long green hair, and Marle can't believe how hot he is. And then in the anime ending that was added for the later ports, you see him getting knighted with spiky Dragon Ball hair, like the team that made that scene was just never told what he should look like Anyway, Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time, and I could die happy with a good remake of it

If they just scaled the graphics up to 4k and fully re-did the soundtrack pixel remaster style, I would be more than happy. Anything beyond that is just bonus

I would like to see additional triple techniques outside of having Chrono in party or taking up an important inventory slot with a special rock. Have the rocks be key items instead of having to equip them, also add additional ones for the party clusters that didn't have a triple tech.

I really love that Star Ocean remaster aesthetic, but it's also important to preserve Chrono Trigger exactly as it was on release. I want to see it have both a completely accurate port and a creative new take on it, together.
  • @TheCaptain904
I will disown Square Enix forever if they screw up a remake of Chrono Trigger.
  • Honestly I think I'd be crushed if they did a FF7R type thing. FF7R has just been a massive disappointment for me. Something like what they did with Star Ocean 2 R would be a dream come true. Tears of joy, no question.

I love how you’re so up on news that I’m not seeing anywhere else, even major gaming news sites. Major props to you!
  • @wiffmastermase
They HAVE to do it. Honor Akira Toriyama. He made all of what we have possible. Hell even Megaman X2 armor is based off saiyan armor and that's Capcoms franchise
  • DQXI's art style (but a little darker) would make the most sense since Akira Toriyama did the art for both games.
  • @Yup712
I’m not sure about having it remade in a “Link’s Awakening” remake style. “Secret of Mana” was remade like that and… yeah…
  • @JohnnyDarko01
Sadly today Akira Toriyama passed away, Im not sure what this would mean for a chrono trigger remake, but I can tell you that most people will remember him for animating DBZ, but I will always think of chrono trigger when people mention his name,
  • @grahfkarate1799
I totally agree. Get like a hand drawn style or something. Keep the combat the same!!!

If they do make a remake of Chrono Trigger, hopefully they bring in some of the old devs from Monolithsoft. Chrono Trigger was the 1st really big project that the veteran devs from there worked on. While the development of the original game was apparently a bit rough, Mitsuda got burned out on the OST & Uematsu had to take over. The game left a lasting impact that few games have ever come close to matching. Fingers crossed that we do get that remake.
