I work in physical therapy with the geriatric population. I explain to people every day that I will not be able to help the joint itself, but I can strengthen all the muscles around the joint for added stability, increased mobility, and way less pain. Sadly, the majority of people do not want to put in the effort and opt for some form of surgery. Then I see them again in a few months, still in pain (or worse pain), and we go back to square one. The body is amazing and can heal itself from just about anything if given the correct tools.

I love Matt Tsu’s advice and direction sooooo much. I am a 64 male with hip arthritis diagnosis and over the last 16 months have self healed using this channel as a blueprint for recovery. ATM!
  • wow.I am a 77 year old ex-dancer with a PhD. in Dance Education! I am also scheduled for either a cortisone shot or a hip replacement. NONE of my doctors recommended strengthening exercises. And I did not think for myself. I am so grateful. I know these exercises, of course, in fact, I spent 3 years in Paris doing the CANCAN! But I panicked because of the actual pain. I so appreciate your tough-talking encouragement. Just what I needed. A literal kick in the butt.

Hello everyone. It's a little trickier than just strengthening. I have watched, followed and did every exercise that Matt recommends for the past 5 years. First, it has helped me become much more flexible as I started with a completely locked left hip. I'm still not able to go for long walks without suffering for a day or 2 afterwards. It's not just your hips when your whole body has been misaligned for many years. When my hips loosen up, then it's my neck and shoulder that hurts. I still do these exercises, but I have started also doing Pete Egoscue's , Pain Free (new edition) book movements. You must relax the tight muscles to get your body back into full alignment. It's working along with the strengthening. I'm 71 and have avoided ship replacement for 6 years.

I really appreciate your humor and presentation Matt. Sometimes pain can be hard and emotionally discouraging.Your humor and encouragement helps to lighten that heaviness.👍🙏

Hi Matt! I’ve been living with chronic pain since early 2001. I’ve tried injections in my spine and have been on numerous medications. The fact is, these treatments amount to placing a band aide on an severe deep cut. In other words, not efficient enough to truly help. I’ve had physical therapy, but therapists can’t do anything after you go home. I appreciate your approach to pain. Treating the entire body to pain relief that can be attained. You are very knowledgeable for being so young. You seriously look like my son…lol. Most times, I feel that youth is wasted on the young. Not true for you! You are helping my body get fit and giving me an active life again. I feel reborn! Thank you son for posting these videos! You’re very fun to watch and I even forget I’m working out! Hugs to you, your wife and your kids!🌺🙏🤟🌈💪✌👏
  • Thank you so much Matt! I’ve been dealing with hip arthritis for years and now I have bone on bone. 3 doctors advised me to have my hip replaced and I’ve been putting it off. I have been following you for a while few years now and love your videos. And now I just came across this hip arthritis one. Thank you for addressing this debilitating issue and giving me hope. And yes I would love the free follow along guide. Will check out your stretching videos for arthritis too! Thanks again for making those wonderful, informative videos! 🙏🏼
  • You’re so honest, I love you thank you for being real and telling the truth all authenticities is true love
  • You make me feel that its possible to get stronger. My sisters have both had hip replacement surgery (and cant figure out why it hurt so bloody much!) i dont want that! Im 69, my daughter wants me to go to a gym and I have had miserable experiences with gym guys who push and push until I vomit from the stress of the treadmill. I want to take it slow and get stronger! You make me feel like Its possible, and I can do it.
  • @mystery-salad
Yes please make the follow-on video. This is good stuff.
  • @user-vu9dw9eh6t
Please do a follow up video. I love your show. It is very encouraging!!!!
  • Thank you for your integrity and your conscientious attention. I subscribed right away after the first video of yours that showed up on my feed. I didn't want to lose you! I would love to do a follow along video with you. I'm pushing 80 and people think I'm 60. Your content is valuable. If younger people started doing this, they could stave off the debilitation that comes with neglecting the body and blaming it on old age. You are brilliant
  • I am so grateful for your channel, all I was told was to stretch endlessly. Only after I started following you and building strength did I get relief. thank you!!
  • @CrankyOldErin
I would like a follow along video. Your stretches have helped a lot, and I think the strengthening exercises are my next step.

So glad I found this video. I had been having hip pain for about 4 months. The main cause was violently, improperly rotating my hips open when my golf swing went wrong for a couple months. Secondarily, my pilates class encouraged overstretching hip flexors with your knee on the pilates reformer (sled). I knew if I went to an orthopedist, he'd probably find arthritis (I'm 61) and blame my problem on that, despite the fact that arthritis is long-term degradation and my symptoms came on in a hurry. I tried a bunch of stretches and they didn't help, and sometimes hurt. One day I just decided to rest a dumbell on my thigh and lift my knee (much like the first exercise in this video). I told the orthopedist that it was the one thing that seemed to make things better. His response was that he would expect that to make things worse, not better, and as expected, he blamed arthritis. Lo and behold, i find this video and it recommends exactly that exercise, along with two others that also seem like they will help. I am so glad to learn from this video that there may be a muscle / training way to fix this problem. Thanks for posting it.
  • @janebaker745
Wow thank you, at last someone who understands what it feels like to be in pain and how to try to overcome it. I am 57 with arthritis in nearly every joint... oweee is my favourite word ... but not any more .. I'm determined to follow you and try your exercises and advice...
  • @tosue1
I've been dealing with a painful hip for several years. After giving up the stretches that caused me more pain, I followed your ATM (always think muscles) and started working more on strengthening. What a difference! I still have some pain, but it's a dull pain now and getting better. I'm so glad I found your videos and your methods.
  • @whomeverwherever
Yes please-early 40’s here and left hip pain is just getting ridiculous. Special request for a video that gets right to the exercises with minimal talk/time before & in between. Maybe just a, “do this x times a week with a break or every day, etc.” Pain and frustration have a way of compounding the short attention span, if ya get what I mean! Many thanks!
  • @IMFrias-cv5gt
I was told I had OA on my right hip and loss 70% of my cartilage just by looking at an x-ray!!! I thought that was insane! Unfortunately I completely stopped exercising and now I am so weak. So I am excited to start strengthening my hips with the follow along video you send me . Thank you
  • Thank you so much..I'm 64 been on pain killers and rubs for years....great results
