I love the synth line in the chorus. Sounds so happy and uplifting in direct contrast to the vocal melody which has a menacing/tragic tone to it

For anyone who doesn’t know, this song is about the Jim Jones cult, who ended up telling/forcing his followers drink a fruit flavored drink mixed with cyanide. Jones was very charismatic and convinced his followers to move to Guyana, and preached about having a sacrifice for a “greater cause” called “white night”. Jones would also try to set an emotional attachment to the followers while preaching, hence the sweet talking lyric, “nobody loves you like I love you, oh my dear.”

I will admit I used to be a hater because of their depart sonically from their first two albums so I stopped listening. Now looking back at their discography and all I’ve missed up to this new banger I realized I’ve missed out and see how insanely talented this band is and how they stay fresh and innovative. Top tier writing
