Chinese state-owned petroleum firm CNPC has suspended all construction at the Agadem oilfield in eastern Niger after "terrorist" attacks. The oil pipeline has remained stalled due to internal security challenges and a diplomatic row between Benin and Niger. The pipeline has been hit with a series of attacks on Niger's oil infrastructure in recent months. It has been targeted by both rebels and other violent groups. The Chinese firm said that "the security situation at the site has deteriorated" after "terrorist groups" carried out a "number of attacks targeting oil projects."
