Michael finally comes face to face with the legendary Herbert Johnson Indiana Jones hat -- specifically the Streets of Cairo fedora from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Can the Herbert Johnson's reputation live up to the Advintage's incredible precision? Or will the HJ's reputation sink the experience? Find out.

I absolutely adore this video, although I fear it may cost me some money. Great work Michael!

This has been IH-300: Intermediate Study of Indiana Jones Headwear. As Professor Frenches' TA I'd like to thank you all for attending this semester, and I'd like to remind you that the final will be on Monday in room 305 of the Brody building. Remember, no phones, laptops, satchels, monkeys, or grail diaries will be allowed in the final. Professor French will be in his office today from 4 to 5, and he will be answering comments tomorrow from 4 to 5. I hope to see all of you next semester in IH-400: Advanced Whipwork and Associated Adventuring.

You guys are probably one of the only channels that frequently deep-dive into Indy props, every upload is total gold!

This is my absolute favorite type of content from your channel. The deep cut details and passion for the absolute in screen accuracy is ultra refreshing and second to none. The standards you applied to this matches my own when I was constructing all of my Terminator costumes.

You're the only person that could make a discussion about a hat interesting . And I love ya for it man.
  • @Mentski
I don't know from Indy fandom, but speaking as a Ghostbuster: Getting accurate kit is a labour of love, man... To the original manufacturers, it was just a job they did years ago. To a FAN,the detail is *EVERYTHING*.

I’ve always loved the fact that Herbert Johnson Hatters also manufactured the Fourth Doctor’s Poet style hat for the Doctor Who production team in the 1970s. So Herbert Johnson were responsible for the headwear of two of my childhood heroes.

The analysis (and dollars!) that went into this cracking study of Cairo Indy’s hat is outstanding!

Michael French could make a video about the history of tablecloths fascinating. This is a man who puts in the work EVERY TIME. Really interesting and engaging video sir!
  • I always learn so much watching your videos. Always great, well researched and produced content! Thank you!!!

Michael, I've been looking for a "close enough" Indy hat to go on display in my man cave. Thanks for the well laid out and detailed review! From what I'm seeing online, converting Euros/Advintage and pounds sterling/Herbert Johnson, the Advintage is about HALF the cost!
  • @TheDivotking1
I just spent 30 mins watching a vid about Indy hats... and I was absolutely inthralled! TY good sir.

I love your passion with this Michael, Indy as a character means so much to me, it's amazing to see your unique eye for detail with his whole look, film to film and scene to scene. When I saw a new half an hour Retroblasting video uploaded I thought yes! And then it was about Indy too, made my Saturday evening my friend. Thank you.

Such fond memories. Back when excited to find people on the internet who could share about Flash Gordon and could still find people to chat about Tom Corbett, Space Cadet and Captain Video. And comics (specifically the Golden Age and not too long gone Pre-Crisis universe). And even then, it mostly led to email or especially snail mail addresses and group lists. Good times.

  • @theflyingninja1
I had no prior interest in Indiana Jones hats, but i watched this, enraptured, from beginning to end. Amazing work.
  • Another great video, Michael! I'm always impressed by your eye for detail and your videos covering Indiana Jones's outfit have inspired me to take a closer look at some of my own favorite outfits from the silver screen. Very cool stuff.
  • @MichaelJShaffer
It's all about the details and I've ALWAYS loved the details. Excellent video.
