Just 41% of Americans are comfortable with the amount of savings they currently have, but others have an issue finally using the money that they've socked away. One expert says over-saving can lead to other stresses.

"CBS Saturday Morning" co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts. Watch "CBS Saturday Morning" at 7 a.m. ET on CBS and 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

  • If you get to a point where you are over saving.......... CONGRATS, you've won the game of life. You can live on your own terms.
  • @SchmooFuzzy
I don’t think this is a very common problem in our country 😂
  • Why would we try to make people feel bad about being frugal and saving money? There's nothing wrong with being careful sbout your money. I admire the older lady in the video.
  • @ssm090
What kind of backwards thinking is this nonsense?
  • This is a solution in search of a problem. Not buying a $200 blouse is not deprivation.

There's no stress in saving at all - it's hustlers like Sethi who would like us to believe that erroneous concept . You don't have spend just because you have money ; I think if only there is a genuine reason or need one should spend .
  • @kwfown
Her daughter in law is eyeing her savings like a hawk 🤦
  • @Charmicaela
soo ?? she doesn't need a blouse to stay alive. its justs frivolous. if she doesn't think its worth it then she is not forced to spend money. i am sure she is much more comfortable with a ton of money in her bank account.

Saving becomes a habit. I splurge once in awhile, but there really isn't much I really need.
  • I think Americans have the opposite problem, but I enjoyed Ramit's book. He makes good sense.

The whole video is based on "matter and money". Did not touch upon any spiritual leanings .... things that money cannot buy!! A bit shallow I think. Maybe Grandma has it right, that spending on things that she does not really need, for a high $$ amount, is not going to buy her Happiness. Good old fashioned values. Nothing to do with stress. Sethi needs to evolve his thinking outside of materialism. My 2 cents.

'Over-saving is stressful'? LMAO! I decided to work only long enough (~20 years) to live modestly and on my own terms and die with no money in the bank. Life is too short to work anymore of it than absolutely necessary.

The older woman makes more sense than the guy who wrote the book! I’m with her not him! Earn your money, SAVE some, spend some, and yes treat yourself once in a while, but I’d never spend $200 on a blouse! I can afford but I wouldn’t. Saving money is great obviously you will need it. I wouldn’t buy his book but I’d sit down with the older woman any day to listen to her wisdom!

This is why I like Ramit Sethi. He teaches how to have a good relationship with money, how to save it AND how to spend it.
  • I cannot see how anyone can save TOO MUCH! There are always unplanned emergencies......If you have to much saved...then give it away to the right organization or non-profit.
  • It's a personality type. My husband makes 7 figures every year and we have a hard time spending. We are happy without spending a lot
  • @paule8536
    I’m not seeing a problem here! 🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿💰💰💰
  • Saving in America in this outrageous economy the highest inflation in American history for the story working class middle class taxpayers 0:17
