Maybe you've been reading manga for years, but the idea of reading anything from Marvel or DC just keeps you up at night. You love watching Batman cartoons, the Marvel Cinematic Universe films and shows, and have played Spider-Man on your PlayStation 4 multiple times... but reading the source material? It's too difficult and much too daunting.

Until today, because I'm here to help! This is my guide for beginners to comics and the best way to start with ANY character or franchise you may be interested in.

  • Explaining how to start reading a American comic is like explaining the fate lore
  • I had to learn all of this a few months ago. It's really a daunting task to figure out how comics work, especially coming from a manga mindset where everything has a chronological order and a set start/end point. Thank you for making this! It's sure to help a lot of people facing the same confusion I faced earlier this year!
  • I started by reading Wolverine (character I liked from films), then I learned about his villains, hero team ups, his fight with Hulk, then I read Hulk, then I read Avengers, it just branched out naturally as a lot of these things are intertwined and overlap. You'll discover new characters just from reading about other ones.

One thing I will mention is that for these characters that have been running for a long time, you don't need to read everything to know whats going or to enjoy the character. I for example love Daredevil and Batman, have I read a lot for both? Yes, but have i read everything these characters have ever been in? Oh dear god in heaven no
  • As a manga reader who only saw books/stories needing to have one beginning, one middle and one end I finally have a complete understanding of how to dive into comics! Thank you!

I'd like to see you do beginners guides for Thor, Spider-Man, and The Flash.

I'd also add that you don't need to read a comic/series just because it's popular or if you're reading something and you're not feeling it then it's ok to drop it, you don't have to see it through to the bitter end. :)

I NEED THIS i got into manga recently and I've been meaning to get into comics but I don't know where to start.

I'm reading comic books since ~1991 and still watched this video. You did a great job explaining and pointing new folks into the right direction. Great video!
  • @ColeVanFossen
Honestly, this makes sense. I'm a completionist, so I want to start from beginning to end, but it's hard.
  • @josalc84
I just picked up the first comic Batman appeared in and his first one. Started there but I will see where I go from here.

I’ve always love Batman, and I went through a phase where I was non stop watching Batman videos such as, cartoon clips, game clips, people talking about the cartoons and games, etc. And a lot of these videos always mentioned a Batman comic but I never bothered to actually buy those comics. Now I think that phase is back and I found the perfect store that only sells comics.

I just started reading Jason Aaron’s run on Thor starting with the the Saga of Gorr the God Butcher. The first time I’m actually reading Thor comics after being a fan of his from the MCU for years. I’m really enjoying it so far.

Really detailed video, I’ve read Manga for the longest time and when I was trying to get into comics, I was confused where to start, what are runs, different issues, etc etc but your video clears a lot of the stuff, if not all of them.
  • I've been meaning to get into comics for a while since I've been a fan of the Marvel movies and Spider-Man is one of my favourite characters. I've only ever read books or manga so I was a tad overwhelmed with where to start but this video was quite helpful so thank you!

I grew up on comics like Batman, Flash, Spiderman, and X-Men, and I recently started to get interested in comics again after a long lapse. I felt very overwhelmed and just kinda grabbed a handful of random books featuring the characters I like, but this approach makes so much more sense. Focus on the work of the artists and the writers who are making the story enjoyable and follow their work and runs. I’m going to give this a try and see where it goes! Thanks for making such a helpful and informative video on this topic.
  • @megaxind16
Wolverine is literally the one character started my comic journey. He just so cool in either movies and comics.
  • Brilliant video - I've needed a straight forward guide like this for years
  • @willie1969
This is one of the very best videos I’ve seen done on any topic on YouTube. Period. Very informative. Great advice. Well done.
