  • Rest in peace, Peter. After a year or two without Thomas and Friends, I came back to find this era in full swing. Needless to say, it put me off the show until I found Tug's channel. The fact that it was animated by the same people who did Sausage Party is pretty surprising.
  • I think I get the "Boss" joke. When Sodor engines talk to Sir Topham Hatt they call him "Sir", but since the logging locos are not Sodor engines they don't know what to call him. So they just call him "Boss" and Topham feels offended by this because he is not usually called "Boss".

13:20 Even Michael Angelis sounds bored out of his mind. He's probably like: "On the Island of Sodor... oh come on, do I have read these lines again?" R.I.P. Peter 🙏
  • 21:02 “The thing is, All Engines Go isn’t trying to be Thomas. All Engines Go is trying to be Paw Patrol. No different than any other kids show out there today, they just slap the Thomas branding on it because it’s marketable.” The accuracy of this quote is just uncanny as hell, it’s so true.

21:25 “As a fan it hurts more, to see Thomas doing wacky stupid cartoon stuff that a train should not be doing, then to see him in a boring formulaic episode but still as a train doing train things.” (Tug) Very true.

Remember when many considered the Miller era to be the lowest point in the franchise?
  • Just had a realization. Tug says Peter won’t be able to see it, but I believe he’s wrong. Now I’m not an over the top religious person, but I believe Peter is watching this from heaven. Rest In Peace Peter
  • HiT - competent marketing, average/below average writing Mattel - competent writing, awful marketing To quote Lafayette (The Aristocats): I guess ya can’t win ‘em all, can ya? R.I.P. Peter (Caboose Crazy) 15:4916:07 - yes, thank you! 18:32 - easily my favorite chapter of the video

“The Nitrogen Era was bad because it was more disappointing, it showed promise but was let down by bad elements, whereas BWBA was just a bad idea from the start and went way too far in a comical cartoony direction.” -Tug I swear truer words have never been spoken.
  • Imagine being told in 2011 when we were all going mad over how bad series 15 was that the Thomas franchise would in 10 years time become a baby cartoon where the engine jump off the track and would be voiced by children and the narrator would be axed!!!! Mattel makes series 15 look like series 1 and that is tragic!!! And Peter you will forever more live in Thomas fans hearts 💙
  • In my opinion there is one character where the Sharon Miller era always does a good job. And that character is Gordon. He was the only locomotive or road vehicle that was never brain dead or out of character in an episode or a movie. And we all know that the season 6 episode "Thomas the Jet engine" destroyed the friendship between Thomas and Gordon, but luckily the Sharon Miller era repaired the friendship. It's the only era where Gordon and Thomas are friends all the time. And not to mention the era fixed Edward. After the Hit era/New series ruined his character, the Sharon Miller era fixed his (with the exception of 2 episodes).
  • Rest in Peace Peter, we’ll never forget you to be a Thomas the Tank Engine fan of ours

10:42 “A lot of shows when they made the CGI switch changed the look of the characters for entirely no good reason”. Bob the Builder: Ready Steady Build: Am I a joke to you?
  • @Metal-Possum
I think the limitations of working with only models does well for creativity and storytelling. Once you've got endless possibilities with a sandbox like CGI, it's easy to take things too far or make things downright silly. The fact they could tell the original stories with some hand made bits of whatever just makes it great.
  • “Would you rather watch a boring baby show? Or a boring baby show that makes you wanna die?”
  • @bartzacky9639
It ain’t Sharon Miller’s fault as her works like TGD, HOTR, and BMM were good. I believe HiT forced the three strikes formula just to only make money off the franchise.
  • @Gondarth
Oh man, I remember the first time I saw the Nitrogen era. It was painful... I rewatched two years ago, hoping MAYBE it'll be a better watch... I saw that episode where Thomas has this weird belief that he could control a giraffe and I realise "No, it's not gonna get better..." I think the worst episode was James In The Dark. The entire plot was ludicrous. Without that lamp, James has embarrassingly bad vision problems if he can't identify a train less than 10 feet away from him when they have their light on and they're talking to him. James may not be able to see them, but he also can't seem to recognise the voices of those he lives with... It's godawful, but that being said, if you have it on as background noise while you're doing something else (chores around the home, playing a video game, whatever), the experience isn't as bad as opposed to giving it you full attention.

This was the era I grew up watching because I was a British kid born in 2010 so I distinctly remember me waking up at 6:00 in the morning and running downstairs and watching the newest Thomas episode on milkshake (which was a British kids show network), Thomas, postman pat and fireman Sam left a huge impact on me as a kid especially Thomas.
