I started playing D&D in the late 80s early 90s as a kid with my stepfather, friends and cousins... its one of the most memorable times of my childhood.... In 2020 I picked up 5e (without even realizing there are different editions) and DMed for my kids and few friends but something never felt right... After a while I moved to OSE / BX which was a great improvement, however recently I bought copies of the AD&D 1e books and with such joy and delight realized this was the game I've been looking and longing for. I liken it to a work of art from someone who had a love for the hobby rather than a corporation looking to put out a product. I haven't run a 1e session yet but the village of Hommlet is waiting and I know good times and great memories are around the corner.
  • Ah, when actors were the lowest class of humanity. We need to go back to those days. 😁

Roleplaying is more about quality that quantity, to me. One problem I have with domain play is that it quickly devolves into third-person play, and not roleplaying in the moment, and hence not immersive to me. I want first person involvement, in the moment, in real time. And again, to me, personally, all D&D is D&D. AD&D is D&D. 5E is D&D. OSR and Retro-clones are still D&D. I'd rather play almost any other game.

I'm not into playing Mike the Fighter the Seventh, i prefer to play different character than fighter with sword and shield or fighter with 2 handed sword! I prefer class And race with skills, which is why i found in 83 that Palladium Fantasy was better than D&D or AD&D! I played 2e AD&D in 2 groups from 1990 to 2009, i have played all the classes and kits i wanted to play! I have played the same character in Pathfinder 1E/3.5 in a campaign that has been off and on since 2012! I played Basic/Expert and AD&D 1E from 1982(when i started playing) to 2000 when i was kicked out of the Navy for having Beta Thasemia during Boot Camp! I joined a group and we played 2E AD&D like the way kids play nowadays without the Woke stuff! I believe that Monogamy isn't for TTRPG's!
