  • Scully's 38-second pause after Kuenn's strikeout should be in a radio-TV textbook for Communication majors ⚾
  • Joe Davis just told the incredible story of how the recording of this game exists. A 17 year-old Dodgers fan living in San Diego had to make the decision of going on a last date with his high school sweetheart before going to college, or staying home and listening to the game on his transistor radio. He had recently purchased a device that could record broadcasts and made the (smart) decision to go on the date that night and record the game. During the second inning, his dad walked by his room and noticed the game wasn't recording, so he luckily turned the device on. The game was thankfully recorded, we get to enjoy this piece of history and Vinny's phenomenal call! As for the teenage fan, he ended up marrying his high school sweetheart - they named their daughter, Sandy.
  • "And there's 29,000 people in the ballpark and a million butterflies." Man, Scully was one of the best to ever do it.
  • It is such a shame there is no footage of this game, but Vin Scully did a great job at describing every detail of the game, like he always has. He will be missed after such an awesome career.
  • “A lot of the fans are starting to see the pitches with their heart” is classic Scully.
  • @stpnwlf9
Absolutely as eloquent in his silences as with his words. The perfect call of the perfect game. Immaculate!
  • @cpaneno
I was actually at this game. The Boys Club took a bus full of us to the game. The bus broke down and we showed up at the stadium in the 3rd inning. What a game. Never will forget such a memorable game!!!
  • @TheHolySC
Even on Radio he was silent for over 40 seconds after. I love that about Scully and I wish more announcers let the crowd do the talking.
  • "Twenty nine thousand people in the ballpark.. and a million butterflies." "A lot of the people in the ballpark are starting to see the pitches with their heart.." "I would think that the mound at Dodger Stadium is the loneliest place in the world." "One out away from the promised land!" "..where Sandy threw instead of pitched.." "Two and two to Harvey Kuenn.. one strike away.... here's the pitch.... SWUNG ON AND MISSED, A PERFECT GAME" followed by roughly forty seconds of silence so the audience can hear and feel the crowd. All of that in only one half inning of announcing.. this is why those of us lucky enough to have grown up listening to Vin Scully feel so blessed. Vin was as accurate with his descriptions as Kuofax was with his breaking ball.

Vin Scully calling Sandy Koufax...legends everywhere
  • @Gamarama8
Vin was, is & always will be the greatest broadcaster in sports history as well as one of the greatest storytellers of all time.
  • @ytesr
I was 15 when I heard the entire game on radio. I was so nervous. Sandy was so beloved in every city he pitched. On his off days between starts he would get standing ovations from the opposing crowds when he came out on the field just to throw warm up pitches before games.
  • And sadly, flags are at half-staff tonight in Chavez Ravine, as Vinny's wonderful voice has gone silent. He was 94. Easily the GOAT. No one even in 2nd place. Many decades ago, he made this newcomer to the US a baseball fan.
  • The greatest pitcher of all time in his greatest game, called by the greatest announcer of all time. Baseball heaven.
  • “I would think that...the mound at Dodger stadium is the loneliest place in the world”
  • Rest In Peace to the great Vin Scully. You will always be remembered for being a great broadcaster and inspiration to many. Thank you. 🙏🏻
  • This is an absolute piece of artwork. Kind of surprising that in 1965 all games weren't already being recorded.
  • @bakon321
Vin will be missed greatly, not only by Dodger fans, but by millions of baseball lovers everywhere. GO DODGERS! WIN FOR VIN
