“The message of [the GOP] is really whatever Trump wants, having nothing to do with conservative principles.” Former Republican Colorado Representative Ken Buck joins Jon Stewart to discuss his early resignation from Congress and why he doesn’t align with the principles of the MAGA wing of the Republican Party. They talk about the shift of news media to entertainment, Trump’s claims that everything unfavorable to him is “fraud,” and whether Trump’s hush money trial and verdict was a step toward eliminating corruption or a dangerous precedent of elected officials being targeted by the justice system. #DailyShow #TrumpTrial #JonStewart #MAGA

Ken buck was my "representative" when he held a veterans issues town hall with less than 2 days of notice. I was working out of state at the time, took unscheduled pto and booked a last minute flight to attend. After showing up 15 minutes late to a 1 hour meeting, spending 20 minutes congratulating himself on the trump tax cuts, and complaining about not having enough money to properly fund veterans programs, the obvious question of how tax cuts would increase funding for the VA was asked. After he and Phil Roe outright lied to a room full of veterans, I called out his obvious lie and he threatened to have the armed police officer in the room arrest me. I am a 100% disabled veteran. Ken buck and all the rest of the gop can pound sand as far as I'm concerned.

How is Jon Stewart, a comedian, the most competent journalist in the United States? This is how journalism is supposed to be done. Respectfully holding the subject's feet to the fire. Bravo sir. Bravo.
  • One of the things I love most about Jon Stewart is his ability to respectfully discuss issues with people whom he fundamentally disagrees with. He doesn’t demonize or dehumanize, he doesn’t yell or insult them. We need more of that in this country right now.
  • As an Australian watching from abroad, I feel like Jon Stewart is one of the last Bastions of hope for the U.S. His ability to hold his guests accountable and try to educate them is superb.
  • To me the dangerous precedent is not holding someone like Trump accountable. Being a president shouldn’t mean you are immune for anything you’ve done.
  • @wsurferdude
This isn't about a former president, it's about a criminal. Beautiful job Jon! Thank You.
  • @hbomb65
Wow, the way the GOP bends for Trump is truly circus level!
  • @user-yj4zs9po9e
It’s people like this guy who have kept Trump out of prison the past 50 years.
  • @ryanstrahle
Jesus christ, we're truly lost when a former prosecutor is claiming that someone shouldn't be prosecuted because the prosecutor WANTED to get the guy that committed the crime.... 1) all prosecutors have to make a decision to prosecute someone, verbalizing it does not discount it 2) 12 people unanimously disagree that there was nothing to prosecute, Buck

Wow. No one else could have a conversation like that on late night TV — and at such depth and length. This is why Jon Stewart is still necessary.

The way Jon halted the boos of his audience to continue civil discourse is a masterclass in respectful debate and open dialogue while staying engaging and entertaining
  • Firstly, I appreciate Ken Buck coming on the show despite being an unfriendly venue. Jon Stewart is a master of framing a discussion in ways that disarm his guests and open up a fruitful dialogue. I'm a left-leaning independent living in Texas. I love talking to conservatives and breaking down the seemingly dichotomous relationship that we see in the mainstream media. When you are in an echo chamber, those outside of that chamber are the enemy. That's the polarized partisan environment we have today, and it needs to stop. I think Jon is demonstrating how we should manage relationships with those with whom we disagree. Not with causticity, but reason and friendliness.

Got to admire Jon for holding Buck's feet to the fire...in a totally respectful and articulate way. Not by attacking, but using facts, logic and sound arguments. America could be healed by this method if only the right weren't totally void in those three things.
  • @Ultimaton100
This is quite possibly your finest interview. Thank you for calling out the double standards and false narratives put forth by this schmuck.
  • @FilmArtPhoto
It DOESN'T MATTER that he's a "Former President"! A Criminal is a Criminal. We are supposed to be a Nation of LAWS, Not Men, NOT KINGS.
  • @jeanneh9742
I knew Jon Stewart was smart but he leaves Ken Buck in his dust.
  • Al Capone was targeted. Charlie Manson was targeted. I think that’s the premise of the law. It targets criminals. I can’t believe I have to explain this to a person that actually writes laws, but that’s how the law works. You commit a crime and get targeted. I know first graders who understand that. Why can’t you?
  • Jon "getting on to his audience" is why Jon is the hero we need... I 100% agree with out the audience felt in the moment...but Jon was correct to tell his audience this is a conversation and this isn't Rome.. Jon is a class act.
