Over 50 years ago, I was blessed to have seen Ella at a college concert. I became a teacher and taught for 35 years. Almost every day, as we were preparing to go home, I would play Ella and other greats. My kids loved her. We celebrated her birthday every year, April 25th. She gave us so much joy, it was the least I could do to pass on her angelic voice to my fourth graders. I raised about 1000 kids during my teaching years and I'll bet that most of them grew up to remember Ella and realize how blessed we all were to have had her. What she and Satchmo do to this song (Summertime) is pure genius. As you read the comments, every one who loved her expresses it so beautifully. She was and still is one of our greatest blessings!

How does a chord progression sound like the heat of summer? Gershwin was a genius.

This is one of the best pieces of music. The band, her grace. His voice, his grace. This is actually a treasure.

A timeless classic. I want to die with this song playing. "One of these mornings, you're gonna rise up singing, you'll spread your wings, and you'll take to the sky"❤️❤️❤️

Tuned in to hear this one last time. The love of my life recently left this world and this was her favorite song.

My late wife had an inhuman voice, and would break into this often when doing random things around the house. Can't hear this song without crying now.
  • Great singers of the time will never be forgotten Ella and L Armstrong were exceptional.
  • Ella and Louis was such an epic combination, nothing beats the two of them singing together
  • I swear to god, Ella's voice is like grabbing a dark chocolate bar and dipping it in honey. Aphrodisiac, elegant, sweet, powerful, everything
