Staying in old Miner's Cabin (near Yellowstone) in Snow

Staying in an old miner's cabin just outside of Yellowstone National Park during a snow storm. This cabin was built around 1880 by a guy named Horn Miller who some historians have dubbed "The Toughest Man in Montana." The interior walls of the cabin aren't like anything I've ever seen before either.

This cabin is located at 9,000 ft elevation. It's surrounded by gorgeous mountains and I frequently film moose and grizzly bears in this area.

I'm 74 and have lived in the mountains for 15 years now. The first thing you learn up here is be prepared...and obviously you weren't. That high up weather can change in an instant..you never go out like this without extra food..real food..extra water..extra clothes..and for Gosh Sakes GLOVES. Also a small propane cook stove and a pan..that way you have heat and food in case you run into what you did. Your just very lucky that you didn't get snowed in up there for a few days...and the wild things were there first so they will share a place out of the weather with you as long as you leave them alone.

Thanks for a beautiful video. Love that you are not afraid of grizzly bears, but a mouse caused you to pack it in

Great video! I lived in Montana in Gardiner for 7 years, so I appreciate this first hand. I feel that this cabin was originally a trapper's cabin, later perhaps used as a fence-riding cowboy's winter home, and most recently (probably still is) used as a hunter's cabin.

I've been there! About ten years ago while vacationing in the town of Yellowstone we drove up there. Didn't spend the night and didn't see any bear but we saw a large pack of wolves. I don't blame you for not sticking around with the mice. Although cute, they and other vermin carrie a variety of diseases and viruses. Excellent video

Hey thanks for another enjoyable video!!! Merry Christmas!
  • It's so cool to see Lulu and Daisy as the snow starts coming in! I keep thinking about how fun it would be to put some trail cams up there and see what moves around. I'm heading to town next week for a bit and am looking forward to skiing around town and the park. Great to see another video from you!
