Man. When Troy Baker said Pedro's performance of Joel made him want to return to the role and do new different things, I think this episode made him think that.

Anyone notice that Joel’s accent gets stronger when he’s with Tommy. There’s a reality to this performance.

I love how the brother dynamic lends itself so neatly to Joel being vulnerable. Without Tommy we'd never see this side of Joel.

This is the Joel I always envisioned. Joel being so wracked with guilt and sadness but keeping it bottled up for so long he has started to develop panic attacks.

Holy shit. That performance was amazing. The way he delivered that line “I don’t remember. I just know that when I wake up… I’ve lost something”. Phew
  • Yes, Pedro is on fire here, but Gabriel is on fire too. You can see Tommy dying inside, hearing his unstoppable big brother just shatter in front of him. Then once the tears start, he's already made his decision.

This scene was so real and so needed for story/character development. This is Joel letting out all his bottled up emotions and worries, and Pedro completely sells it.

“All I’ve ever done is fail her.” The way that “her” could be either of his daughters.

"I just know that when I wake up, I've lost something" they mentioned Pedro came up with that alone, and I think is the most heartbreaking line of the monologue. It kills me the way he says it

I love how human Joel is in this scene. Even though he’s a survivor who’s lasted 20 years in the apocalypse, he’s still human and he’s getting older and slower. He’s starting to see Ellie as a daughter figure and that terrifies him, he’s already lost one daughter he can’t take losing another one. He’s already afraid of her dying and him not being able to protect her, for the first time since episode 1 we seen so vulnerable and so scared.

2:23 This is a perfect example of an adaptation elevating the source material. In the game, I never once thought about how Henry killing Sam would've affected Joel as an older brother himself. Tommy's look of shock and sympathy when Joel tells him about it conveys so much.

Pedro deserves all the awards for this scene alone !!

He's so terrified of him failing her and her dying as a result, it's heartbreaking. And of course this is foreshadowing for what'll happen in the final episode. He cannot lose another daughter. It would absolutely destroy him.

I love how they make Joel so human. In the game he is sort of mechanic and harsh. But here he shows emotions and true depth. It’s just beautiful
  • Damn. The setup for the final episode is so good. Joel hasn't been really killing people throughout the show. He explains it all here clear as day. He's not who he used to be, he's grown softer and older and he fears for ellie. But in the final episode, he's gonna be faced head on with another chance at saving a daughter. With this, the monster in him will be let loose again and he will protect ellie

When joel said he wakes up and knows his lost something pedro actually came up with that line :( makes it all the more heartbreaking
  • @terazyn
Pedro's best performance on the show so far. Just amazing acting.

"I'm failing in my sleep. It's all I do. It's all I've ever done - is fail her again and again." Damn that's heartbreaking. What a scene. I'm loving some of the changes they're making.
