She was a precious flower; a songbird whose voice was pure sunshine on the most beautiful day. Every song she sung, you felt the joy of her spirit shining through her voice. With a five-and-a-half-octave vocal range and a unique ability to reach the highest register of the human voice with the ease of bird taking to flight, Minnie Riperton proved to be in a league of her own. To date, no one has managed to hit those insane notes like she did.

When she passed...It hurt me to my core!!! The sweetest lady and I came to believe God needed her sweet voice as a Angel and she will never be replaced! Love you Minne and that's from my SOUL 🙏❤🌹😢
  • May she rest in peace ❤ I had breast cancer and I am a thin non drinker. Weight really has nothing to do with it.
  • Denise Williams and Minnie Rippton on The same record now that's a guaranteed hit!!!

I wonder if she knew her life's outcome before it happened. Her singing “back down memory lane” brings that to my mind. We will never know.

As a teenager Minnie was the background singer for Etta James
  • Minnie will always be one of my favorite singers. Her voice can not be compared. The ease with which she could slip into those extremely high notes was amazing! Love this lady forever.

I remembered the day so well when she passed. I was awaken by the song Loving you. Then the news she had passed. My mom was up getting ready for work and she yelled my name and I was already up turning the T.V on and then I played back down memory lane over and over and fell that was her way of letting the world know she was leaving us

Minnie remains a Top 5 lock on my list of all-time favorite American female vocalists (other 4 being Phyllis Hyman, Lizz Wright, Teena Marie, and Judith Hill). I agree that she really didn't receive her flowers when she was still here on this earth. Her groundbreaking solo debut album ('Come To My Garden') should've made her an INSTANT household name back then, while her songwriting contributions with then-husband Richard Rudolph firmly made her a force to be reckoned with from an artistic standpoint. Her tragic passing due to breast cancer was made even more painful on account that she still had SO MUCH MORE to offer the music community at the time, but had that opportunity taken away from her so unexpectedly. At least her daughter Maya (Rudolph) was able to make a name for herself as a well-respected actress/comedienne. Today, the one artist that DOES remind me of Minnie the most (at least in spirit) is Esperanza Spalding and I'm glad she hasn't let the industry steer her "off course", either! 😌👏
