Your left out some important details. Jordan's original appeal was not against a deduction (execution score) but rather that they did not count an element she completed into her difficulty score. On the day of competition, they accepted the appeal and ruled she was correct, which increased her total score into third place. Now, 5 days later, they're saying "you deserved the corrected score but we've now realized you appealed our mistake 4 seconds too late so we're going back to the original, incorrect standings." What a joke. They should take responsibility for their own errors (multiple at this point) and not penalize either Jordan or the Romanian gymnasts who have been yanked around by their disorganization and lack of professionalism.
-
The judges messed up. They didn’t figure her score correctly. It was their error . Her medal should not be taken.
-
How bout the judges that got her score COMPLETELY WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
-
It wouldn’t have been 4 seconds late if the judges got it right in the first pace. So both girls deserve a bronze.
-
So the Romanian girl gets her heart broken last second, then the American gets her medal taken away days after? Just give them both bronze and call it a day. Give the other Romanian a bronze as well. She also got screwed by the judges.
-
Wasn’t it the judges’ fault to begin with, twice for that matter, first for not giving Jordan credit for the tour jete, and then again for not realizing that the inquiry was made late…? Who dropped the ball(s) here, the athletes, or the judges?
-
The damage is already done. The judges should’ve been more proactive and knowing of the rules. Let her keep the bronze and correct for next time.
-
Its not a normal Olympics without a scandal.
-
So we can change a score at will 5 days after competitions, and it’s righteous; but an appeal deemed “too late” for errors you caused is unfathomable. Wouldn’t be the Olympics without some level of stupidity.
-
Just give them both the medal. Jordan shouldn't give the metal back.
-
Qatar and Italy shared a Gold medal in the High Jump in 2020, Tokyo. It was the 'Bromance'. There was an Athlete recently who said he wasn't sharing his medal. Let the disputes begin. Jim Thorpe has his medals taken and reinstated 60 years after the fact.
-
Both girls victimized by the incompetence and callousness of the judges. To cause even more grief over a supposed 4 second delay is inexcusable because the person counting the time could have made an error.
-
4 seconds is insane
-
This is ridiculous. If the judges had scored everything correctly the first time, all of this could've been avoided. Now, you have a heart broken little girl.
-
Why can't they both receive a medal? They were so close! And both performances were beautiful.
-
This doesn't make sense. If USA was 4 seconds too late to appeal the mistake of not counting a move at all, then Romania was way way way way too late in filing any kind of appeal... But of course the IOC is always about politics and then pretending it isn't political at all.
-
We were 4 seconds too late BUT ROMANIA CAN GET THEIT APPEAL 5 DAYS LATER
-
When the dust settles, it's going to look bad for the IOC and FIG. In a Individual Event Final, they didn't credit Jordan Chiles for a skill she performed. Which is the crux of all the back and forth. Her Coach not inquiring about points she performed and her score not reflecting it would have been all the talk.
-
The routines in question need to be judged by a new panel of judges and the bronze given to that winner. Or give multiple bronze medals. Issue an official apology to all 3 gymnasts and change the rules so that this won't happen in the future. It's sad that crappy judges have tainted the Olympic memories for these gymnasts and those that support them.

I knew something was off with the score..I feel bad for the Romanian gymnast and now I feel bad for Jordan.
