Lava theme from DKC2 in pristine studio quality. This was made possible by locating the sounds from workstation keyboards and drum machines such as the Korg Wavestation, Roland S770, and Roland R8, and plugging them into the music instruction data ripped from the game, plus a little mixing magic to create might have sounded like with the veil of 16bit compression lifted. Part of a project to restore the entire DKC series soundtrack. Follow me on Twitter for more updates: twitter.com/PrinceSamlet

I remember refusing to finish the stage just because I don't wanna stop the song. So goood
  • Instant time machine back to Christmas of 1995 when I got this as a 13 year old. Staying up late on break from school navigating yet another Donkey Kong game with not a care in the world. Those 1st two games were so great. Music and memories of my childhood. Miss those days.

Nothing like how most lava levels sounds these days, really shows off the majestic side to volcanoes, usually seen only as threatening and omnious.

these 15 minute versions are perfect for someone with ADHD like me who spend 13 minutes subconsciously vibing but still get 2 minutes of dedicated appreciation
  • One thing I've always really liked about this track is how groovy the drums are. They're usually not something I notice much in music but in this song its hard to miss them.

David Wise was/is, in my opinion, the John Williams of SNES music. Whereas John Williams' scores are intended, quite often, for the entire family to enjoy (such as Star Wars), his scores do lean towards the mature adventure side of the musical spectrum, if that makes sense. Wise's music is the exact same thing as William's, except that it is aimed at children and adolescents. It perfectly conveys a child's sense of wonder and adventure in the various settings we can see in this game and others he has scored, without losing any atmosphere or anything. In fact, environments are just as well experienced as if they were scored by film composers for films containing similar locations. Wise's music stands alone, unique, yet in the same league as Williams

Man, I love the work you're doing on these tracks, and how you interact with the community to take feedback to heart even though you're already putting in so much work. This is another great restoration, it makes me feel that sense of wonder of the days when I was a bright-eyed 10 year-old playing DKC2 for the first time all over again. Much love, please keep up the good work!

the donkey kong country 2d platforms are easily the greatest platformers ever made, they blow all of the mario and sonic games out of the water

Honestly I've never said this before but I feel like it's justified. You're doing god's work
  • @SilverHunterN
I love how in most games, lava based stages have dramatic or evil sounding music, yet here, its all calm, like its an easy area and lava barely hurts you.

Childhood restoration, thanks to you and whoever else was involved in these restorations. And of course most importantly David Wise.

This song BANGS. First time playing this level the other day and it felt like I stumbled across gold

I tend to hate volcano levels, but Donkey Kong Country 2 is the only game where I can enjoy the level, not just for the music, but the whole feeling of progress and challenge.

I used to consider Mining Melancholy, Jungle Hijinx and Stickerbush Symphony as my most favorite tracks in the series, but honestly I think Hot Head Bop is just an entirely different beast. The instruments that kick in at around 1:10 is just got DAMN.

Just from the random gameplay clips. I thought.. This might be one of the best platformers ever made. I would have no problem with this being one of the few video games I let my future kids experience. Just imagine.
  • @GekkouKitsune
I was there for a while when you were making this one. It's amazing, and I'm reminded every time I hear it that this is a very underrated track. It's downright beautiful.

The soundtrack of this game is on another level. ❤
  • The original composers need to be given an award for these timeless classics
