Wade Davis: US social and political landscape points to decay | The Bottom Line

Published 2024-07-28
In an interview recorded days before United States President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race, Canadian-American social anthropologist Wade Davis argues that both Biden and his rival Donald Trump “ought to have stepped off the stage a long time ago”.

Davis tells host Steve Clemons that there is no question that the 20th century was the American century, but the question now is, “Who’s going to rule in the next century?”

With Americans on the left and right demonising each other, there is no room for a middle ground, and the country has become unrecognisable to many Americans, says Davis.

neither a nebulous "social contract" nor the state of economy at the time gave workers weekends. Unions gave us weekends. America is not and has never been benevolent to it's underclass, just varying shades of cruel, some worse that others.

The answer: now natanyahu is ruling but as soon as he looses the war ...the ones who beat him will rule
  • China is, no doubt, the only country that has economic, diplomatic, military and technological power not only to compete the US but also has intent and strength to replace it.

A thought provoking study and video. The political landscape has decayed. But it does not mean the policies accelerating decay will discontinue. The social inequality that has reached crisis proportions between owners of property and workers in general is that they are not the same person in society! American workers own little to no property, CEO’s are an oppositional force with their money. Without property to productively consume and production does not happen unless there is a market for it the condition of the working classes worsen. Work should be organized for itself and be an end in itself. In the empire’s setup work is organized around a time element, the amount of working time on average it takes to make an ounce of gold is the Rule of Equivalents. People are not equal in this set up the commodities and money are equals and because they cannot talk for themselves they have representative speaking for them. Not all countries have gold or most of the gold reserves are in the hands of few nations. These nations can buy dollars with the gold they have by selling it, convert it back into money. All is good here but not there. Not so easy for nations without gold. These have to sell resources, and allow acquisitions, sell land for dollars in order to buy gold. Trouble starts when there is little left to share.
