The most endangered wolf in the world, the American red wolf is a beautiful animal native to the entire Southeastern United States. But sadly it can now only be found in and around North Carolina’s Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.

With fewer than 20 left in the wild, each pup born here offers important genetics to a critically endangered population. Some pups may even have the opportunity to run free in the wild someday.
