How Li Ka-shing became Hong Kong's richest man

Publicado 2018-03-16
Li Ka-shing's story is one of rags-to-riches. Born in 1928 in Chaozhou in Southeastern China, he fled to Hong Kong with his family in 1940 during the second Sino-Japanese war.

He started out as an apprentice at a plastics factory and slowly worked his way up to be factory manager at just 18.

Li was the first Chinese to take over a British-backed conglomerate and today he has investments all over the world.

His fortune is worth US$35.3 billion. Turning 90 in July, he is retiring, handing the reins over to his son.

It just sounds like moving to either Hong Kong or Macau during the Japanese invasion just boosted your chance of being rich.
  • What this video doesn't tell you is that he dated and married the daughter of a wealthy manufacturer, hence became a factory boss at an impossible age

He monopolised Hong Kong and made it expensive for everything. Flats, food, mobiles etc.. a real cancer of HK.

That’s the official story which is a lot of BS. He had a lot of eastern and western government backing and got a lot of sweet heart deals.

He is not doing hk any favors. Hoarding the cash and keeping it in his empire. Thats the problem with really successful people, they wish they can keep it forever. One thing is certain, he would not be able to beat death.
