The Seventies were my years Loved all of these songs and don't give a hoot what critics have to say
-
The difference between an entertainer and a critic is TALENT.
-
Why point out criticism for every song? Why not just celebrate the songs?
-
Leave all the critics out. For all the criticism they were hits so people loved them.
-
50 years later they still sound great. Sounds like "the critics" should remove their heads from where the SUN don't shine.
-
Brandy! Great Song, I still love it.
-
No "critic" ever influenced how we FEEL about music. You're giving them a relevance they never really had.
-
I've never cared what critics say. Never have, never will
-
I was in elementary in the 70's and I remember MOST of these songs playing on the radio! YES!!! We listened to the radio back then!!
-
Critics: "Too simplistic, too simplistic, too simplistic..." Also critics: "Too complex, too complex, too complex..." Moral of the story: Stuff the critics; like what you like and enjoy what you enjoy.
-
Spirit in the sky is one of my favorites of all time. Everytine I hear it I think of my summer days as a kid playing baseball
-
Fun Fact: No matter what song or how good it is or was, there will always be critics trying to rip it apart.
-
These songs will always be around. May be one of”hit wonders” but I bet have out lasted the critics.
-
I am going to take this opportunity to give a respectful, appreciative nod to Gallery and their hit "Nice to be With You." One of those songs that can put a smile on your face from the moment it starts.

love grows where rosemary goes

Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest, Smoke From a Distant Fire by The Sanford/Townsend Band, Third Rate Romance by The Amazing Rhythm Aces are three of my favorite 70s one-hit wonders that didn't make your list. I hop there's a Pt. 2 coming.
-
thank you for respectful comment about B.J. Thomas. I met him way after his famous days. Super super guy .

It's Blue Swede, as in Sweden where the band is from, not Blue Suede. "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" fun fact: Barry Manilow wrote a song called "Brandy", but changed it to "Mandy" after Looking Glass released their song. Pilot is only a one-hit-wonder in 'Murica. They had several hits in the UK and Australia. Ditto David Essex.

It's amazing that each of these songs had some kind of criticism. These are my very favorite songs of my growing up years in the 70's.
