The Book of Bill sows a lot of seeds for the future of Gravity Falls, between setup for Dipper and Mabel taking on the multiverse and the return of Bill Cipher, but it also does a lot to recontextualize the past! In a section dedicated to dreams, Bill gives us a peek into the zodiac mindscape, providing insight on many characters such as Wendy, Pacifica Northwest, McGucket, Grunkle Stan, Mabel and Dipper! Dipper's dream revealing that his parents may actually be getting a divorce, which changes EVERYTHING we know about the show! This is why Dipper and Mabel were really sent to Gravity Falls for the summer, why Mabel was so upset at Ford offering an apprenticeship in Dipper and Mabel vs the Future, desperate to be tricked by Bill/Blendin Blandin and why she wanted to stay in Mabel Land during Weirdmageddon! We're going to breakdown and explain this twist alongside exploring the meaning of other dreams in this section!

If they only knew that sending their kids away to avoid trauma sent them into worse trauma. Oh the irony LOL

Pacifica's nightmares are metal AF. Imagine THOSE being animated like oh my- 😱

“Pacifica has nightmares about washing blood off her hands, but it never comes out” Jesus Christ, mate…

The fact Dipper and Mabel's parents thought about divorce makes so much sense. Why the Pine Twins were sent to Grunkle Stan and why they don't even talk about their parents in Gravity Falls. Mabel getting angry at Dipper when she overhears about Ford's offer makes so much more sense...
  • As someone with divorced parents, I can fully understand why Dipper and Mabel would have nightmares about that topic. Nobody want's to see their parents fighting and and thinking about the changes, that come with parents splitting apart. I feel so bad for them, but love that we still get this kind of revelations. I would love to see more of the full Pines family! ❤
  • The reading of Dipper's nightmare in bills voice is absolutely not expected. It set my heart beating a bit 😂

Dipper: Ready to head into the unknown? Mabel: Nope. Now those words hit much, much worse.

This doesn’t exactly recontextualize the entire series—rather it adds context to a lot of the motives and actions the twins took throughout the show! Honestly, it kinda makes it better—love this video!!

As a child of divorce were both parents were divorced longer than being married this hits a strong with me. Cartoons were my way of escaping my crappy home life and Gravity Falls was part of that.
  • That’d definitely explain why they were shipped out to their Gruncle Stan, who they’d never met before and who was a famous wacko

That twist with Dipper and Mabel's parents. Makes me think of the show differently now and makes me interested in a new season of the show. I would be down, plus it gives the chance to explore characters in the show we didn't get more of. Like Pacifia, Wendy and more.

Ah, I get it. So Mable is obsessed with boys because she wants to prove to herself that love is real while Dipper is obsessed with mysteries because after finding out about his parents big secret he has a need to know about all the other secrets out there. This really does deepen the twins chaeacterization.
  • The idea of Dipper and Mabel potentially having to deal with the possibility of their parents divorcing definitely is something I wasn't expecting, but would explain their mindset throughout Gravity Falls, especially just before weirdmageddon.
  • The divorce thing was one of my biggest fan theories about this show (right next to the Society of the Blind Eye still being active and Bill having survived from being erased from Stan's mind). That book answered so many theories. With that revelation everything I knew about Dipper and Mabel changes. Now all we need is a new series to confirm all that we have learned from this book, mostly because I can't read the book because I don't think it exists in my country. I only learn of what's inside it by listening to people like you reacting to it.

Honestly, this doesn't surprise me. When I first watched the show, I asked myself why these two were shipped off to live with an uncle they hardly knew in a town they had never been to before without their parents. I know every family is different, but a summer camp and an entire town that the parents likely never went to themselves are two VERY different things. They only thing I was able to figure was that their parents were trying to work out their marriage, or start the divorce proceedings like you mentioned, and didn't want the kids around to see the shit show. This is one of those times where I hate to be right. Like when I guessed from episode 1 of "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure" that Cass was the biological daughter of Mother Gothel. I hope they figured it out! But, alas, we won't know unless Hirsch comes out with another book, comic or season of Gravity Falls. If we don't get another season, I want a copy of Dipper's pine tree journal with all the notes, hearing about how his last year of middle school was as well as the summer that followed. I also feel this would be a great companion novel to a season three like how Journal 3 was to the first two seasons.
  • Soos wanting to change his last name to Pines is actually so cute and wholesome

It's a bit depressing knowing some of the darker nightmares of everyone. Wendy, Dipper, Pacifica and Mable specifically. Knowing what they suffer from makes a lot in the show stand out with moments between them.
