Oh what I would do to have an hour to talk to this genius man. He is one of the only people who I could understand why I am so much physical pain from psychological trauma. Swimming and diving has saved my life. Thank you for sharing this video

The random commentary by the woman is horrible and disruptive. It completely ruins the video.

I'm sorry but the captions r really bothersome and make it so I can't watch 😢

Great reminder concerning how the body keeps the score. 🙏
  • Wow! I do believe I found my tribe authenticity is the word😅
  • Just some feedback from the viewer-pausing to add summaries actually feels as jarring as a commercial and I fast forward through them. This speaker is prolific and carries the convo. Interjecting is not helpful
  • BUT is there a list of some sort of practitioners that are trained in this way so people can access help.
  • I wish my insurance would cover massage. My pain is deep... The abuse began when I was a baby. I have several pain and inflammation illnesses and I wish I could get massage or acupuncture to help heal.

Want to know if my current depression is this? I have autism add and bipolar but exhausted and nothing helping. I maybe wrong it I wonder if my Dad cared to help me… and listen to me. I don’t know but almost feel like my collapse isa. Cry for help like self harm would be . I hope not I want to live and help myself but it’s not working. Maybe it’s just crippling depression. No ideas. I ve prayed
  • Trauma is an event or a series of of constant interpersonal or other issues...

No offense intended but I think the real doctor is a friend and friendship, and no therapy nor doctor can cure better than a true friend who cares. I wish there was a friendship corporation. Maybe the robots can save us, they can be Friendliness Incorporated.

..and we cannot leave out the other very important aspect that gets impacted by trauma…our human condition…it gets over-developed in an attempt to survive the effects of trauma…our dark side gets dominant…we cannot leave that out. We become so afraid we stay angry, envious, controlling, etc etc etc we become selfish and self-centered, arrogant, narcissistic, in an attempt to shield ourselves from the suppressed body experience that we carry….it keeps us from looking at being responsible for our experience…all of it… speaking only about trauma leaves us blaming the trauma…and others…and now I don’t have to honor anything I don’t feel like honoring because I was traumatized…please don’t leave it out. It’s vital. My problem is not the trauma…it’s that I’m powerless over the effects of trauma in my body…and my problem is I’m the one responsible for acknowledging my trauma and its effect on my human condition…that human condition that was here waiting for me when I was born…and that we have wanted to over-look since the beginning of time…because we made it ‘bad’. We made it the ‘bad’part about us…It takes lots of courage..and lots of love…and lots of safe space…a bit at a time…

In addition, Dr. Van Der Kolk advises the potential YouTube reuploads of his lectures to avoid adding jarring breaks filled with background music, distracting videos and surface level explanation of the content that he is literally talking about which is being stopped by the attempted explanation.
  • i agree, the random interurption sited earlier by another viewer are disturbing and not helpful. What is this video trying to achieve? It never seems to conclude or share what does work. Sadly i probably will nt come back to it. Im sorry there isnt more help than this. likewise the videos dont seem to connect. I respect van der kolk but this leave me cold
  • And yet in all massive mental health systems “treatment” looks nothing like a trauma informed approach .
  • People like him make people like me desperate by not referring to competent legal advocacy. 🙄
