hey man, your setup is wired correctly. you were just calling the white a neutral, while that's true in most applications that's a 240v air compressor and requires 2 poll breaker. meaning 2 hots and ground there's no neutral in that application.

According to the Lowes website, the compressor draw is 15.7 amps @230v. Breaker sizing is set by NEC 430.52, that has the correct sizing for fuses and breakers. The one thing not given on the data sheet, is the motor's service factor, but I will assume it is 1.15. SO, the breaker size should be 15.7 x 1.15 x 2.50 = 45 Amps (this is the MAXIMUM allowed, so a breaker under this is selected). Using a 20 amp breaker is rather low and very close to the normal load. You may have tripping on start up due to the inrush to the motor. A better size would be 30 amps, and the wire is sized to match the breaker.
  • I got the set without the accessories because I'm picky. >>>>ur2.pl/1018 Follow the break in instructions like the other reviews say. Run for 15 minutes while the release valve is open. Good construction overall. comes with two quick connects. I ended taking one of them off and putting a recoil hose on it. One less point of failure.
  • I put a 80 gallon in my shop last year and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I don't know what load a plasma cutter runs but we do mostly body work and some welding for a few people. My grandfather has been doing it 50+ years at that location and never had anything but an 80 gal tank with the dual pumps they work better for our setup. Also my pops works for lowes and gave me the skinny on em. Lowes is easy to return them if something happens....make sure you use some paperwork for the install cuz they get super bitchy about people with "no business license doing/certification" wiring them up. but if your like me im sure you got a contact who would vouch for ya. Also outta just curiosity do you know that you need to monetize your videos if you want to make $$ on it? if you don't know how there are several good videos out there but if you cant get it worked out shoot me a message and I would be happy to help. Looking forward to the review on the ground blind I will wait for it to build my own!!
  • Identify the white wire as hot with black electrical tape on both ends. Just for safety and most codes.

Another question if you don't mind answering, would you recomend 20amp or 30amp? I wired it and installed 30amp? Would it be okay to leaving it with 30amp?

There’s a video from ave how to set something like this with a 3 phase motor have you seen it yet it’s really cool how he does it and it is supper quiet
  • Hey Buddy did you wire up a electrical disconnect box for you’re compressor or do you just turn off the compressor by the switch on the compressors pressure switch or breaker? I’m going to be wiring up a 230v 15amp 3hp compressor only about a 20 ft run at most and was just considering using 10/2 wire and a 20a double throw pole just needed to know if I need to wire a disconnect box or if I’d be fine going without and just adding a new separate 20a double pole breaker to my main breaker panel and running the wire to the 230v outlet. Could you tell me exactly what all the supplies I would need to get from Lowe’s or Home Depot to wire it up to the compressor? The compressor comes wired already I just have to wire from the outlet to the pressure switch after installing the circuit breaker and running the 10-2 wire to the outlet.
  • Does the compressor ever trip the 20A breaker when the motor kicks in? I have the same Kobalt compressor and the manual calls for 30A breaker. Thanks for the video!

I just burnout a motor on my 230v air compresor my voltage meter is showing 236v would this be the cause of the burnout? Or rotation has to do something? Not sure if wiring black on left side and white on right side can make a difference.? Can you please help me with this question what could of cause the burnout of the motor?
  • I got the 2 stage for much cheaper but my issue is connecting the wires inside the wires inside the switch box
  • @eliudegea
I WOULD LIKE YOU TO TURN IT ON THE VIDEO TO KNOW IF THE NOISE CAN BE STRONG BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW IF I BUY ONE

air compressor cylinders are pretty much the same as a car engine cylinder, except run backwards. Instead of creating pressure in the cylinder to turn a shaft, we turn a shaft to create pressure. What makes a two stage compressor interesting is that one cylinder pumps into the next cylinder, so that the next cylinder has a much higher starting pressure and can further compress the air. The advantage being that the airflow is much higher at higher pressures than a single stage, where each cylinder just feeds the tank directly. A single stage will have much more airflow at lower pressure, however.
  • God damnit pitter patter let's get atter ! This was about wiring a compressor not about wiring your shop. Come on son need to keep them separated : video for compressor , pressure switch, power cord , motor, ect. Video for shop wiring air compressor, welders, plasma cutter, lights and outlets ect.
