FF6 at 7 physically hurt me but to each their own. It’s easily 1 for me but respect for putting your opinion out there. Will be watching this whole series

If XIII gets a remaster, I think they should definitely implement the Active Time Lore feature from XVI. It could definitely help out those struggling with the lore and plot of the game.

It's hard to only rank 14 based on ARR, when their expansions have all been basically top tier story wise.

Started this video and realized I should draft up my ranking of the stories first and then compare, so here's mine: 10, 7, 6, 15, 9, 8, 4, 13, 12, 2, 5, 3, 1 Tougher than I expected just judging the tales told without the associated gameplay. Top 5 are all great, only the last two are truly lacking for me. FF1 is one of my favorite games period, but the story is pretty much "a bunch of stuff happened before you showed up, now travel around til you fix it". Remarkable what a step up FF2 is from a story perspective. I also love FF12 but it gets docked mostly for story legibility haha.

Tactics is one my all time favorite games in the franchise and thrilled to see it ranked so high!

I'm glad to see someone appreciate the storytelling of Final Fantasy II even if there is other stuff that I greatly disagree with.

FF7 is basically a rehash of FF6: --Magical Steampunk setting /// Sci-Fi Steampunk setting. --Gestahlian Empire harvesting Magic and Espers to make magitek soldiers for power and conquest /// Shinra harvesting the lifestream for profit and to make mako soldiers for economic and worldwide domination. --Terra is a magical halfling confused about her identity and place in the world and has a breakdown after discovering her true nature /// Cloud is a mako infused soldier who has a breakdown after blurring and unblurring his and Zack's identities. --Terra is a special being and the bridge between Esper and human and chooses to protect them with her Esper powers /// Aerith is a special being who is the bridge between Cetra and modern day humans and chooses to protect them using the power of the lifestream and the holy materia. --Kefka absorbs ancient magical powers to become a god, goes mad, and decides to destroy the world /// Sephiroth is injected with the cells of an ancient godlike being, learns of his true nature and the Cetras, goes mad, and tries to destroy the world. --Magicite is refined crystallized magic /// Materia is refined crystallized mako Sure there are nuances and common themes shared amongst all FFs, but some of these are just a little too on-the-nose for me personally and makes me wonder how things would've played out if you swapped FF6 and FF7s releases.

I think I agree 100% I might have put tactics at the nr1 spot because of its overal story but I agree with your explanation that the story of the castmembers is lacking

I find it really tough to rank the FF games purely by story, even though the story is, for me, far and away the most important element of any FF game. But when you really break it down, what makes a FF story good or not so good? I mean, FFVIII remains my favourite single-player FF, bit its overall narrative is perhaps not the best (although I still think it's good). It's more the characters in that game that make it for me, and certain moments in the narrative. And the Shadowbringers and Endwalker expansions of FFXIV are easily my favourite narratives, but due to the game's nature, their stories are not necessarily told in the most coherent or dramatic ways, at least not compared to some other FFs. So, ultimately, I can't really argue with FFVII being the best story out of any FF game. It's just an incredible roller coaster ride, epic in scope, but also deeply personal. However, I also think that FFXVI now takes the crown for the best presentation of its story, it's just so cinematic and dramatic, with incredible set pieces and amazing music. And yeah, for me Shadowbringers and Endwalker remain the pinnacle of FF storytelling.

Another brave soul who found VI story to be just ok. I approve. It starts off great but just falls off hard in the WoR. Ranking wise it’s generally: IV, VII, IX, X.
