The purses aren’t good quality. These “luxury” brands have become fast fashion for rich people.
  • The only people that don't realize we have been in a recession are government economists

I'm in retail in London and i'm not sad about Matches going. Snotty sales staff is never a flex for a business. Elitism will kill any business model.🤫

I unfollowed every single “luxury YouTuber” that’s did not speak up against Balenciaga!!!! Every single one.

I will never purchase Balenciaga again. I destroyed and put my two bags in the garbage bin and don’t miss them. I draw a line when kids are targeted inappropriately in any way.

Cassie thorpe found a statistic that gucci spending is made up of 40% high net worth and 60% everyone else. So if you don't want the 60 percents money and expect the 40% to make up the shortfall you end up in this situation. the explosion in luxury spending was driven by the upper middle class who spent less on other discretionary stuff (mainly travel) during covid. They now have to make a choice and they're not choosing the bag.
  • Coach went up 6% YOY in 2024 Q1. I think they are brilliant and really understand the market. They offer one of a kind upcycled bags, you can trade in your old bag, and they offer really cool personalization to your new coach bag right in their boutique. They recognized that millennials and Gen Z’s carry about sustainability, much more than they care about exclusivity. They are catering to the youth and the upper middle class. This is a HUGE population that luxury brands are ignoring. Good on them!
  • In the end, a bag holds items. Why should any bag need to cost $5-10k?
  • My husband works in the point of sale industry and has direct insight into the retail market of anything from grocery to luxury. Apparently part of this is the generation coming up doesn't feel the need to have the experience of the all in purchase of buying something new. Thrift, resale and consignment are going to just get bigger and bigger!

I've watched so many of your videos talking about price increases, especially after COVID, and I think this is the fallout from them getting greedy. The price of everything went up way too much and their main customer base just isn't having it anymore.

The cost of living is outrageous 😮 At this rate Chanel will tumble too.

Why buy a bag that wants to discriminate against the middle class even if you can afford it? I don't need a brand like that.
  • Sales are also down in China. There was a big hope that post pandemic the Chinese consumer would continue to purchase at pre-pandemic rates. They have not!

You have to remember, you mentioned it a while ago, Saint Laurent used to take "coupons" on third party sites like Farfetch and go on sale but stopped. The reduction is now like a sale or coupon.

My daughter works in a global architecture firm. We were discussing the wonderful fashion some of her coworkers wear (the designers particularly) and I mentioned luxury brands. She told me that not one of these coworkers wear any of these. I asked what they did wear. She told me that they seem to go with small, boutique companies specializing in innovation and high quality, often offering custom designs. This is for shoes and bags. So if you ask your coworker about the great shoes they are wearing today, they are from a brand you never heard of and they were custom made anyway. These items may be more expensive or even less expensive than the logo luxury brands. There are a lot of choices out there. If you don't want to pay these high prices (esp for poor quality) there are a lot of great bags out there for hundreds of dollars rather than thousands. If you want something more, why pay thousands for less quality if you can get something more interesting and/or more exclusive. These logo luxury houses may have out-marketed themselves on many levels.

The Preloved market is a key factor. Its inpacting every brand, from ASOS to Chanel

I'd buy a YSL bag if I could get it with 1000 euros, but with 2000 I really can't justify it. I assume a lot of consumers are like this and that means serious losses for brands that choose to have their prices sky high. I wouldn't want a woc with that money but a real bag I can carry more than my phone in it...
  • I think you’re absolutely right.People are fed up with these insane prices year after year … Even people with lots of money are spending more for less quality . No one is that stupid. These companies are losing clients and it’s really a shame . Missed opportunity.

Pluto is in Aquarius. It's going to get worse for these brands. Around September-October and towards the end of the year more brands are going to be in trouble as Pluto goes into Capricorn for the last time. This era started with Pluto going into Capricorn in 2008 with the financial crisis. Heritage brands started trending and increasing their prices. Everything changed form from slouchy to structured - Capricorn is structure and old money. This is the end. We are going towards sustainable, eco-friendly, fair-trade, vintage and futuristic fashion.
