Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Mel Stride defended the Conservatives' record over the last 14 years, saying the party has "achieved a great deal," before using the response to the pandemic, reducing the rate of inflation and bringing taxes down as examples of the party's success.

"It's absolutely right that we make it clear what the alternative is," said the Tory minister as he warned about the possibility of Labour raising taxes.

Tories so proud that they brought taxes down a little from the highest they have been in 70 years. And I don't remember them saying any negative comments about their own 80 seat majority.

State Pension is already taxable: it's what form PA 302 is for. Does Mel Stride not know this?

It is true Labour will attack people’s taxes but let’s be honest. We don’t mind paying more tax to improve NHS services, getting fuel right and improving education. I just wish Labour would admit that they will.

Why do they keep lying? Many pensioners are actually paying tax for the first time because of Conservative policies. That will actually end under a Labour government!

If the Tories had listened to what the majority of the people voted for they wouldn't be in this trouble now
