The Clone Wars is a DISGRACE to the Prequel Trilogy

In this video, I try to contextualize a key reason I hate the Clone Wars so much.

Show Description
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is an American computer-animated children's and young adult's television show created by George Lucas. It is part of the Star Wars multimedia franchise, and is set during the time period of its prequel trilogy, with seasons 1-6 set during the three years between the prequel films Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), whilst the first eight episodes of the final season take place during the same time period and the last 4 episodes of season 7 takes place concurrently with Revenge of the Sith. Lucas, who closely collaborated with supervising director Dave Filoni on the series, called it a continuation of the previous Genndy Tartakovsky-produced 2003 Clone Wars series. The series began with a theatrical feature film that was released on August 15, 2008, and debuted on Cartoon Network two months later on October 3, 2008. Episodes had a running time of approximately 22 minutes to fill a half-hour time slot (compared to the 3–15 minute episodes of the previous series). The seventh season was released exclusively on Disney+, where it no longer needed to fit specific time slots, and run times were approximately 24 to 26 minutes.

In early 2013, Lucasfilm announced that The Clone Wars would be "winding down". Thirteen episodes comprising a new sixth season were made available in the U.S. for streaming on Netflix, along with the entirety of the series, beginning March 7, 2014.[6] A project known as The Clone Wars Legacy adapted unproduced story arcs into other formats, such as comics and novels.[7] The series was revived for a seventh and final season of 12 new episodes, which premiered on Disney+ on February 21, 2020.

The Clone Wars received at first mostly positive reception and later acclaim from critics and became a significant ratings success, becoming one of Cartoon Network's highest-rated shows during its initial run. The series was also nominated for numerous industry awards, including the Daytime Emmy Awards and the Annie Awards.

Some characters created for The Clone Wars have gone on to appear in other works, including the animated series Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018) and Tales of the Jedi (2022–present), and the live-action series The Mandalorian (2019–present), The Book of Boba Fett (2021–2022), and a spin-off of the former focused on one of The Clone Wars' main characters, Ahsoka Tano.

A spin-off sequel series, titled Star Wars: The Bad Batch, premiered on Disney+ on May 4, 2021.

I love how Filoni loves to pat himself on the back for not Contradicting Anakin and Grievous not meeting while Contradicting everything else.

Remember when in an early interview Dave Filoni said that TCW would not contridict the 2003 Clone Wars micro series
  • People keep criticizing Filoni for the new stuff he made, ignoring the fact that the same problems in his new stuff are also present in the clone wars. It’s no coincidence that many prequels haters love the clone wars because they simply do not build up properly from the prequels. The worst part of the clone wars is the brain chips, wich contradicts the natural willingness to obey order, so that Dave Filoni can just choose the clones he wants to keep good.

The Clone Wars Multi-Media Project, is basically a perfect Clone Wars Timeline that flows nicely into the PT without really screwing things over. Despite the fact that it stretches across comics, books and video games, I find it far and away superior to TCW and the fact it doesn't mess with the PT.
  • TCW would work better if it never tried to be part of the movies, I used to watch it more like an altenrate universe, but after season 7 that's kinda impossible

The main thing that confuddles me is how people act like the clone wars retroactively represents the original intentions behind the movies. I heard one guy say that it was only in episode 3, when the actor for obi wan got comfortable with his role, that he became the jedi we know, despite it narritvely not making any sense. The show tries to have its cake and eat it too with the flanderized characters. Obi cant both be a strict jedi who couldnt train ani because he wasnt qui gon and be buddy buddy with ani and has a secret girlfreind just like him for relatabilities sake.

I used to defend TCW, before I realized how much it retconned and how much better it was, especially the Republic comics.

2D Clone Wars is so much better than Filoni Wars, and nobody can convince me otherwise.

The most die hard TCW fans defend Rebels to the death; just because it has the Ben Kenobi vs Mail fight scene. When it’s the most pointless fight in Starwars. Maul comes back only to serve as a distraction for Ashoka (another character that shouldn’t have existed, or at least should have died) during order 66. Then only to die to the same character that killed him the first time. Just so Maul can say something dumb like “is he the chosen one??” Which is stupid because we all know Luke isn’t the chosen one. Anakin is.

The EU will always be superior to TCW and Disney Star Wars. These are the stories we deserve. And if they were animated features, you'd get mass outcry for what they did nine years ago, taking them all away from us.
  • @TK-wk6xd
One of the craziest things TCW fans say is that it's okay to break continuity if it means writing a good story arc.

Your video peaked my interest regarding the republic comics and wow is it good! I’m about ten issues in and I love it so far. The raw realistic story told in those issues are far superior to the clone wars show in every way conceivable! Thank you for posting this video!!

Anakin being a wisecracking hero completely misses the point of his character He wasn't some wise ass, he was a young man who was emotionally unstable due to the Jedi Order's absolutionist stance that any and all emotions are evil and MUST ALWAYS be forced to the back of a person's mind in order for them to be a 'good Jedi'
  • @Jensaarai1
Thank you! I've been saying the same thing for over a decade.

This also applies to the empire Era as well. In the previous continuity we focused on the characters we liked while adding on what made that era already good as opposed to changing like how Rebels, Mando and Book Of Boba does. The current Cannon has such pathetic story lines and assassinated the empire to such an awe consuming degree that it's pretty much unwatchable for me personally. I got into star wars around the release of EA's Star Wars battlefront and I found the Darth Bane Trillogy shortly after the fact and I always considered the current Cannon as a sub par brand yet the rest kf the fan base for whatever reason praises it for whatever reason even though that everything Disney has put out is objectively completely inferior to what came before it.

Now I'm kinda curious as to how much Lucas was involved, like TRULY involved, because compared to his other works he's done prior to TCW it seems....strange? Or if by this time, he was in the process of just selling SW to Disney and thus didn't really care at that point. It just seems strange that before, he seemed very sure to not cause any issues with the movies...but then TCW comes along and there's clearly a bunch of issues. We have Dave saying "Oh Lucas said this and this" but I mean....how much of that is actually true? How much of it is really just Dave? Not saying Dave is putting words into Lucas' mouth, it just seems a little odd. Or again....maybe Lucas was just so done, he didn't really care since he sold SW to Disney.
