Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher. Epictetus taught that philosophy is a way of life and not just a theoretical discipline. To Epictetus, all external events are beyond our control; we should accept whatever happens calmly and dispassionately. However, individuals are responsible for their own actions, which they can examine and control through rigorous self-discipline.

  • My high school history teacher said that everything worth thinking has already been said by ancient philosophers. Well said - that's something to think about!

The "Ego" is easy to nurture, but it takes a strong man to suppress it..

Watched a lot of these, and found this one. It's like every passage is spot on with what I have struggled with, instead of half of them being things I haven't as much. It is strange how different every person is, and then how similar they can be too. But Epictetus was certainly speaking to a particular type, definitely.
