Aigis being the picture for etrian odyssey is just funny
  • I think it should've also been mentioned that Dragon Quest (1986) came before Final Fantasy (1987). It should also be noted that DQ kickstarted the Turn-based JRPG genre we know today, paving the way for the creation of all the other turn-based console JRPGs that spawned due to it's success (Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Mother/EarthBound, and so on).

I laughed hard at the "Pikachu, Charizard" part lol
  • No introduction just straight into it. I love it. Very well done video
  • @Bacalao.
Bruh, you all keep hating on the man. He made a very good video as an introduction for new Jrpg players. No vets like you. Some flaws but nicely done man. Hope you achieve the 20k, greetings from Argentina!

The tales series just hits different imo…..Symphonia was a great introduction for me. It was like “super smash bros: the RPG“ for me growing up.
  • @Kora_exe
Shin megami tensei really deserves more respect guys
  • @pri4904
My fave is the Yakuza series. All game are so funny with the best side quests and a high quality main story
  • Yeah Suikoden series feels like a huge omission from this list, otherwise you got most of the popular jrpgs out there.
  • @raed42
If you made part 2 one day. Don’t forget to add Wild arms series 🤠
  • I’d say most Fire Emblem games are not standalone, but most can be played this way. Just do not play (New) Mystery or Radiant Dawn first (and Thracia spoils some of Genealogy). That Legend of Heroes explanation felt very safe which is fair lmao I’m surprised the gameplay wasn’t mentioned? Not only does the world expand each game, but technology is constantly progressing and this is shown best through the gameplay changes every new game.

One of my favourite JRPG related videos ever! Amazing job <3
  • Kind of wish you didn’t just include Xenoblade. The Franchise started way back with Xenogears in 1998. Then after that we had Xenosaga on the PS2 between 2002-2006. Also Xenoblade wasn‘t meant as a Xeno titles originally but later Games leaned more into it. While all 3 Xeno series are owned by different companies, they‘re still sort of connected and most players consider them as one large Franchise Also SMT wasn‘t the first Monster collector and the beginning of the series, it was Atlus’ Megami Tensei on the Famicom (NES) which was based on a trilogy of Novels. SMT released a few years later and then became the cornerstone of the larger Megami Tensei Franchise (the Shin in Shin Megami Tensei literally meaning „True“)

As someone who appreciates JRPG's but only played a few, I loved the quick rundown on a lot of the big franchises. Excellent video dude.
  • @ReversedJrpgs
Such a great video, anyone mulling over which JRPG they should start with should start with this vid! Some relevant series you missed: -Drakengard/Nier -Digimon World -Rune Factory -Yakuza/Like a Dragon
  • The fact that Tales Of, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and Ys are all on here makes me so happy I know it's easy to find people online who like these things, but sometimes irl it feels like I'm the only one The Tales Of series has so much meaning to me, and I feel like it's so underated! This is coming from a person who has beaten five Tales games. I know, the fact I'm saying this has little to no meaning, but thank you for including this wonderful series in your video.
