Welcome to my first-time watching as we react to Deadpool (2016). An incredibly funny movie starring Ryan Reynolds in the role he was most definitely born to play, Wade Wilson/Deadpool.

Director Tim Miller did an excellent job handling the fantastic action sequences and the tone swerving from all out fun to dramatic in a blink of an eye. It was such a fun watch to see the Merc with a Mouth's outrageous antics, fourth-wall-breaking humor, and unexpected charm.

"Deadpool" introduces us to Wade Wilson, played by Ryan Reynolds, a wisecracking former special forces operative turned antihero with a penchant for breaking rules. There are so many elements that make Deadpool truly standout from other films in the genre. From Ryan Reynolds fantastic comedic timing as well as his fantastic performance to the emotional depth they were able to give a character who is constantly making light of dire circumstances to the pacing of the action this movie does a lot of things very well!

We hope that you enjoy our reactions, commentary and discussions as we delve into the film's themes, how it impacted the superhero genre and how allowing this film to be R rated is exactly what we needed.

Sit back and relax and join us as I experience "Deadpool" for the first time!

The greatest part about this movie is the long-running gag that most people don't even pick up on. Wade spends the entire movie killing people after asking them "Where's Francis?" The problem with that is no one in the organization outside of the room when Wade said his name knew him as Francis. Everyone who knows him, knows him as Ajax. If Wade had asked the first person "Where's Ajax?" he probably would have found him shortly after and avoided all of the complications and maximum effort in between.

Fun fact: usually in movies, if a character's face is completely covered, these scenes would be acted out by a stunt-double and then the main star would come and record the dialogue later, but Ryan Reynolds insisted on being there, on set, wearing the FULL Deadpool costume, because he knew people would recognize the difference in body language.
  • If Ryan Reynold's commitment wasn't 100%, if the chemistry between Wade and Vanessa wasn't PERFECT, if the casting and writing and choreography wasn't just so ON POINT, this movie would have collapsed. Instead, it just worked EVERYWHERE. Great video, guys. Thanks!
  • Ryan Reynolds kissing the stalker wasn't a part of the script, so the kid's reaction is 100% genuine 😂
  • Producers: How many adult and fourth wall break jokes do you wanna have? Ryan: Yes.
  • @aRanDumBhobo
You are correct. They knew it was going to be a banger. The scene when he drops into the car from the overpass was actually filmed as a test scene and Ryan Reynolds leaked it onto the internet and the fans went crazy for it and created a lot of buzz for a full movie. Hollywood didn't have a choice but to make it a full movie after a few months. Ryan Reynolds loves Deadpool that much.
  • @Gaara4tails
The "we don't talk about THAT Deadpool" line was perfect
  • The fact this got made at all is a miracle. From the “leaked” teaser that was the highway over pass scene, to the lack of real funding, and lack of faith from the studio. And now it’s one of the highest rated superhero movie outside of the MCU (for now). It’s so good.
  • @SirPaladin
Ryan Reynolds is the perfect harmony between "born to play this character" and "only ever plays ONE character."
  • @hydralissk
The thing about Deadpool forgetting his bag of guns and ammo is done because the studio cut their funding, so the filmmakers had to make the action scenes more small scale than they intended. For all intents and purposes, they made it work even with a reduced budget. Another easter egg is the broken down shield helicarrier in the final fight.
  • @toodlescae
You don't get the last part unless you've seen Ferris Beuller's Day Off. 😂
  • Interesting side note, the final battle here takes place at one of the destroyed SHIELD Heli carriers from 'Captain America Winter Soldier'.
  • I get a huge kick out of the part where Deadpool says "Wait!! You're probably wondering why the red suit? Well, that's so bad guys don't see me bleed. This guy's got the right idea, he wore the brown pants." 😅🤣 I swear, Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. He nailed the character so damn well that we forgot about the atrocity that was the Green Lantern movie.
  • @Ladmia
I’ve never clicked on any alert FASTER. Such a great movie! No one can see a bottle of Ajax without saying ‘Donde esta Francis?’ or ‘where’s Francis?’.
  • The running gag about him forgetting his ammo bag and all those guns at the end was because it wasn't in the budget so they just made him forget 😂
  • The thing about Deadpool's skin: it's not burn scar tissue. Since his mutant power is regeneration, of ALL his cells, that includes the cancer cells. His power just pushes the cancer away from his healthy organs to keep him alive, so.... his skin is tumors :P And yes, Ajax is the name of a dish soap, which in turn is named after Ajax, the King of Salamis in Classical Greek myth, who was said to be "stronger than all of Greece". Ajax the dish soap is "stronger than all grease" :P And of course none of his henchmen know his real name, which is why Deadpool gets nowhere asking for Francis :P Also, unofficially acknowledged but that is a derelict SHIELD helicarrier Wade and Ajax are fighting on at the end.
  • @narcisis4147
Weapon X was a program to give completely normal humans genetic mutations, and strengthen the genetic mutations of already existing mutants (Wolverine getting Adamantine in his bones). The serum they are injected with gives them the X gene but it will not be activated in normal humans unless they are subjected to extreme moments of stress (tortured) where their bodies believe them to be on the brink of death so it turn the X gene activates giving them a mutation to survive the ordeal. In Deadpool’s case however it didn’t mutate him, it mutated the cancer in his body. The cancer mutated in order to grow new cells and help him survive, basically giving him super cancer that left him in peak human condition, gave him godly healing, increased agility, speed, and reflexes due to the non existence of factors such as lactic acid, muscle soreness, and loss of breath.
  • @bjornh4664
My wife and I watched this the night before our wedding. That's the kind of people we are.
  • So fun fact for those who dont know, the reason deadpools skin looks like it does is because when his healing activated, the cancer cells got super charged, so the cancer is rapidly grow and the healing is rapidly healing it, wades healing factor is actually better than wolverines, its just that a body without cancer cant handle the rapid regeneration and grow of cells
