Northern California man defends his home from Park Fire near Chico

As the largest wildfire in California this year approached the small town of Cohasset, Ron Ward was prepared with a sprinkler system he had just finished installing around his ranch after losing his homeowners insurance. He says the flames reached withing feet of his house and then stopped. (Video by Associated Press)

    One of the most effective ways to fight fire is by lighting a back fire. With so many people moving into forested lands, firefighters have to work harder, in more dangerous situations to save both the forest and their homes. I think there should be laws that basically say in case of forest fires, we will protect neither you, nor your home.
  • Lives are more important. I wouldn't have risk staying. I am glad you guys made it, stay safe.

    at 0:42..... the fire is in a stump it looks like, but close to the ground with nothing else around it burnt.... how does that happen? I am glad you survived!
