DON'T Play Poker With A RICH Businessman!

Published 2023-10-25
When a billionaire meets a poker professional you know there are going to be fireworks! Bill Perkins & Doug Polk delivered on their promise to bring an extremely exciting heads-up match as they are playing with over $500,000 on the table!

Jonathan agrees with Bill Perkins' decision to call the 4-bet preflop rather than 5-betting. If Perkins were to 5-bet then Polk would only continue with his very best hands and with such a strong holding Perkins wants to keep Polk in the pot.

On the flop Bill Perkins should check-raise at some frequency due to his poker hand being vulnerable to being outdrawn to Doug's potential bluffs. Calling to keep in his bluffs is completely reasonable too! A huge factor to consider is the effective stack size, the deeper you are the less you want to raise as you may face further aggression from a hand that could be dominating you.

When deciding whether you should continue bluffing you should always consider if your hand actually has showdown value. Many ace high type hands do have show down value so they are often not the best candidates to use as bluffs, you can often beat some of your opponent's draws if you can get to a river cheaply!

Doug Polk is a part owner of The Lodge Card Room along with Brad Owen and Andrew Neeme. Doug has $9,500,000 in live tournament earnings and 3 WSOP bracelets, which includes a win in the $100k Super High Roller for $3,686,865 in 2017.

Bill Perkins is a hedge fund manager, film producer and amateur poker player. He plays in some of the highest stakes cash games and tournaments around the world. He has $5,400,000 in live tournament earnings.

Doug Polk issued a $100,000 open challenge to the world, Bill Perkins immediately accepted and was the first challenger. Bill ended up winning $29,900 on the challenge. Other challengers have included Scott Ball, Kevin Rabichow & Ethan 'Rampage Poker' Yau.

This exhilarating poker hand that took place during a high-stakes showdown at The Lodge Poker Club in Texas, USA. In this nail-biting cash game, poker legend Doug Polk and business tycoon Bill Perkins went head-to-head in a $100,000 Heads-Up Challenge with blinds set at $200/$400.

šŸƒ Preflop:
Doug Polk starts the action with a raise to $1,100 from the button with As Tc, and Bill Perkins decides to 3-bet to $3,800 with pocket queens. Doug Polk decides to use his hand as a semi-bluff and 4-bets to $13,000. Bill wants to keep all of Doug's bluffs in so he decides to just make the call. The pot quickly reaches $26,000 before any community cards have come, setting the stage for a showdown of epic proportions!

šŸ’„ The Flop: Js 6h 2s
The flop is revealed and unfortunately for Doug he completely misses it. Bill checks to the aggressor & Doug has no problems in firing out a $8,500 bet with just ace high. Bill makes the easy call with his overpair and they head to turn with $43,000 in the middle.

šŸ”„ The Turn: 2c
The turn is a complete brick for both players and Bill checks again. Doug now ramps up the pressure even more and decides overbet for $52,000. This puts Bill in the blender as Doug has played his hand exactly as he would with pocket kings or aces to which Bill is behind. Knowing that Doug has the ability to run huge bluffs he makes the call once more.

šŸš€ The River: 9s
The river card is unveiled which doesn't help Doug. Bill checks one final time. Doug Polk blasts the remaining $157,200 chips in his stack into the middle to put Bill to the ultimate test! Bill goes deep into the tank and cannot decide whether to call or fold. Watch this poker video to find out exactly what he does!

What do YOU think of Doug's 3 barrel bluff? šŸ¤”
  • Whoever the editor is that has added the minecraft drinking sound every time someone takes a sip of their drink in all your videos for the last year or 2 deserves a raise

The first comment was at the beginning. The fact Bill put his hands behind his head, flexed at Doug, then calls. This might be the greatest moment in poker history!
  • The problem with businessman is that they have a lot of money and they don't care and therefore it is harder to bluff 'em (and it is even more profitable if you have it)!

part of Polk's strategy is to make risky plays because it pays off in the next 20,000 hands he will play over the next year.
