Big difference, especially on voice and accoustic guitar. I always put a windscreen on to help with the the highs. Definitely trying this mod.

I think the mod made the acoustic guitar sound a bit muddy. For vocals I think it's fine. Piano, I couldn't tell at all.

I replaced my capsule with one from advanced audio and installed a 480 and it turned out great. I can definitely hear some improvement here. Kudos!
  • @audiofreq
I used a 470pf wima cap for mine, and it reallllllly helps alot. Great video!
  • 1. Great video! 2. Thanks for the shout-out. 3. Next time I'm in the neighborhood I'm stopping by the studio. peace

Just did this mod with a 470pf 50v ceramic capacitor (hope ceramic is alright?) seems to work fine and mic sounds much better.
  • @andreamanzotti1712
What should be the voltage of the pf680 capacitor? Is 50v too low? Thank you
  • HI I OWN A AKG P 22O WHICH IS A CARDIOD . IS IT POSSILE TO MAKE IT INTO AN OMNI DIRECTIONAL . I KNOW IT MIGHT SOUND STUPID BUT JUST FOR MY CURIOUSITY IS IT POSSIBLE.
  • @dloorkour1256
Is this part of a first order low-pass, or??? Do you know the other value(s) in the filter? Thanks
  • @Fl4ppers
Is there a requirement for a particular voltage rating for the cap? Or can any be used? I've seen some for 635v and others for 270v.

Nice video showing the modification and its effect well. I, however, prefer the original microphone, especially on the acoustic guitar which loses its high end ring - which is part of the Martin sound - so it sounds dull and loses a bit of harmonic life. Sidebar comment - I am curious why you do not use any sort of vice or jig to hold the microphone steady while you cut and solder, etc. Holding the mic while soldering small bits to the board is substantially more difficult than it needs to be. Trust me, Boobie, it is worth 5 minutes in the workshop to make a simple mic-holding jig making your solder job so much easier and safer. Drive on soldier. JR
