Welcome to episode 2 of Making a Minimalist home! Today we are discussing my thoughts on how I shop as a minimalist and some tips that I have learned over the years to stay intentional as we decorate our new home. I hope that you can find some truths and valuable lessons here as you shop.

The mini-series on my channel is about making a minimalist home. Since we just moved from Hawaii to California, it's the perfect time to talk all things shopping, decorating, DIY-ing and making a cozy home the minimalist way.

My vision is to start this mini-series with an empty house tour and finish it with a minimalist house tour when we're all settled in.

If you're new here, welcome! I'm Madi and I create videos about minimalism and slow living every Wednesday. In my videos you will see my minimalist home, my capsule wardrobe, decluttering, inspiration for slow living with kids, intentional living, minimalist finances, things I no longer buy, things I no longer own, things I buy more of as a minimalist, and just overall my passion and inspiration for simple living!

Thank you so much for subscribing and supporting my work by watching my videos.

I so appreciate how real you are. You don’t make anyone feel less than. I’m really enjoying your videos. Thank you.
  • I find when I wait to buy things half the time I come up with some other creative way to repurpose something I already have and don't end up needing to buy anything.
  • Love this!! These are all great tips, and being grateful for what we do have is so important! ❤️

i love the idea that the items we need are so close to us - in the store. and we don't need to store them. store keeps it for them till we really need it
  • Hi! I don’t know how your video ended up in my feed but it’s been such a breath of fresh air. I have on and off wanted to be more minimalist and being so passionate about the environment, resources, and sustainability aligns more with that. However, I think I’ve struggled emotionally and with the stress in my life that has caused me to go on spending sprees and buy everything that looks pretty or that I feel like I should own but have little to no use for. Excited for this series to keep unfolding! Thanks for sharing 😊
  • We recently bought a house. It's been fun noticing how different my mindset is now. I am slower to buy and so much more intentional. I'm also quicker to let go of the things no longer serving us.
  • So many of these tips are perfect for helping deal with a scarcity mindset!

You should start a podcast. I need you in my ears when I’m decluttering 😂
  • So excited to see your food clutter video! I definitely get stressed when I look in my fridge and pantry and feel like we end up wasting more than I'd like to admit.. I'm thankful for you sharing your journey on here, your videos have honestly helped me so much. I've decluttered soo much and feel so thankful to be more free. I'm excited to continue this lifestyle, I think this is the freedom the Lord wants us to have as wives, mothers, sisters and friends ❤️
  • Great video, Madi! Thank you for sharing your insight. I especially love your final point - “want less”. Let us be content in our hearts with what we already have and be thankful for the simple things that are such blessings. I also love your “wait 24 hours” advice. I find that waiting to purchase items helps me discern whether it would really be a useful purchase that enhances something in my life, and then if I do end up buying it, I appreciate it even more because it was a thoughtful and intentional purchase. Thanks again for your content! Your videos are like a breathe of fresh air! Have a joyful and peaceful day with your family!

I love the idea of “wanting less” thats where I need to slow down and focus on! I think your suggestion of bullet journaling on that is a great solution! Because with advertising and marketing flashing us everywhere wanting less can be difficult for me!

You hit home for me when you said you won’t feel in a desperate panic to go get some thing when you have your needs met….that’s me. Your videos help me so much thank you. I’m saving 💰 to take your course because I need it ❤
  • Loved this! So helpful. And that antique store was beautiful. I think I would spend the day just browsing.

    1. Make a leisurely list 2. Only buy what you need today 3. Take a photo 4. Wait 24 hours 5. Want less
  • @carlashreeve445
Yes! Please do a pantry organization video. That's such a struggle for me!
  • Totally agree with the visual photo tip.. I would also get side tracked in the beautiful thing that caught my eye but at the end of the day it was not the right decor item for the space or would really not fit in the esthetic style I was wanting to create.. By waiting and taking the time to just put a picture of my wish list or mood board saved my time, money and mental space
