Here's me having a go at Carl's lovely tune from this TNAG video:

   • Preston Thompson D 42 Custom Acoustic...

As is often the case, slow and simple doesn't mean easy to learn and play! I had trouble with keeping strings ringing, keeping tempo, and the ol' thumb-over the neck.
I didn't have trouble in the DAW, however, this is two SDCs (bridge/14th fret) panned hard right/left plus a high-pass filter - no other processing or fx played with.

I'm impressed that you are learning Carl Miner's tunes. They are beautiful and unique love songs to the guitar. I may have to try to learn some of this myself...a great challenge.

I dig it! I might have to watch this like a billion times but I want to try to learn this!

Thank you Tom. As you’ve been inspired by Carl, so you have inspired me. That’s a lovely-sounding D41 too.

Thanks for the reply Tom, I'm not surprised by your answer really, I expected that you would have had an extensive wealth of learning behind you. I only picked up the accoustic at 60 and I have struggled really finding things I really wanted to play, I turn 63 soon and it's only since I saw Carl playing that I've found a style that inspires me to play regularly with focus. I've learned a couple of tunes from Roberto D Vechio I'm a long from you and Carl but I'll keep checking your vids and live in hope. Thanks again and for the quick reply. 👍
  • Superb Tom and the new guitar sounds great. I have recently started fumbling about with a pick so I now really appreciate this style of playing and the difficulties involved. I've subbed to listen to your journey with Carl's pieces and I must say you are doing brilliantly in my view.

That sounds like what acoustics are gonna sound like when you get to heaven.

Having listened to some of you other flat picked videos, I think that the Martin sounds clearer and more defined than the Larivee. A more well rounded tone.
