Destiny 2 - THE TRUE ORIGIN OF THE VEX? Used By The Witness Species

The Vex and the Precursor species of the Witness share some very interesting similarities and origin. Using technology to predict future outcomes, Convergence and both on the path toward the Final Shape. Today we discuss the possible origin of the Vex.

The Witness precursor species may have used or been in connection with the Vex! Glass-Minds that allowed them to narrow down specific futures and outcomes. While we still need more answers, this definitely seems like a hint!

Calling it now, the character RS is the one that keeps sending the stranger back in time each time she fails to stop the darkness

Synthetic pale heart, garden, glass mind.. too many similarities between the vex and their makers

One of the predictions relayed from the Observatory reads:  'Machine-plagues carving their prediction-machines into moons.' That fits the D1 description of the Vex pretty good as well. Converting entire plantes to machine.

I feel like the vex is almost like a prediction engine running rampant. Perhaps the precursors found the vex when they were just radiolaria, and utilized them, but as the radiolaria learned from base info the precursors fed the vex-powered prediction machine, the vex desired to know everything, and eventually decided to try to forcefully integrate everything into their network. Think about it

So what if this all knowing all seeing Vex mind saw that it was not a part of the Final Shape and has been pushing humanity and the Guardians to the place we needed to be to beat the Witness and prevent the Final Shape. Now that could be some amazing storytelling, and would explain those random people who get caught in the Vex but are still able to communicate. They are tools to an end. Not mistakes but deliberate choices made by the Vex to the end I predicted.

Not gonna lie was hoping this was gonna be one of the mysteries we went down the rabbit hole in the next saga

I've always been wondering who or what created the vex ever since d1, finally have some answers!!!

The Vex are a Radiolaria hive mind. Radiolaria have shells made of silica. Silica being what glass is made out of. Many Radiolaria shells are transparent. (And while not really realated to the topic they look reaaal funky, look it up). Glass minds is honsestly a viable synonym for the Vex generally speaking, not just some specialized units.

All the lore on the precursor species has been phenomenal so far—definitely amping up excitement for the Final Shape

For a moment, I had the thought that the Vex are the same as the precursors except they do not have the intelligence to fully utilize their technology, and that's why they didn't get caught up into the philosophical dilemmas that the precursors did, as well as Maya Sundaresh on Neomuna. And that's why they achieved the 'final shape' in their 'instance of reality'. It's like a physicist getting caught up in theoretical math, and a calculator. The Physicist will get caught up exploring one set of variables, thinking they are approaching enlightenment but never will. Yet the calculator will only use what it needs, and thus, will reach a higher state of enlightenment in the end. So, perhaps the Vex started out as a computational tool for the Precursors, and as both evolved, one actually advanced, and the other 'stalled out' and forced an unnatural evolution to get out of it. I think too much. I'll never reach my final shape at this rate.

Nice Theory 👍🏾 I love the Lore
  • @genkideguire
Sounds like a ret retcon again. The light fall intro of the witnesses people said they found the traveler buried in their planet... and vex were from a different dimension.

@EvazeOfficial Glass can also refer to the underlying computational substrate the system is running on. A form of so-called computronium - matter specifically engineered to be optimized for computing use. It's possible that these are optronic in nature - optical electronics- a technology we currently are IRL beginning to make use of. It is very possible that the "glass" is an optimized form of crystalline carbon - diamond - or a near-form thereof (so-called diamondoid). While we associate glass with fragility, this instead would refer to how such a material (which might be QUITE strong indeed!) might look to the naked eye - a crystal, glass-like, mostly clear, with that faceted "diamond rainbow fire" look.

can't wait for more lore if you still have some thoughts about the collector's edition data
  • @omegatheta1701
Honestly, this is putting the old lore book about the game into a new context. If we see it as a fancied up retelling of the interaction between the precursors and the traveler, we can see how the the vex possibly came to be as a pawn created by the precursors to ensnared the traveler for want of a better way of stating it at this time
