Aero Precision Solus: Is it a Home-run?

I take a quick look at the newly released Solus custom a by Aero Precision. Things I like, things I don’t like. The Solus is Aero’s foray into the bolt action world. Known for their Lego style guns, they have plans to do the same in the bolt action realm. Plug and play, at home assembly. That DNA stands out in a couple of areas of this action.
The big keys, it’s Rem 700 footprint, integral 20 moa rail and integral recoil lug, and it accepts the already established Zermatt Origin prefit barrels.

I can’t link to their site, but if you’re watching
this, I’m sure you know how to get there!

Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for the review! We're actively trying to get our action wrenches out asap. Love finally seeing these out in the wild!
  • Just when I was beginning to crawl out of my credit card debt…
  • Glad to see a new post! Looking forward to comparisons between actions. Thanks! -Isaac
  • This was one of the very few things from last year's shotshow that I was pumped up about then everything went completely silent about it. So glad to see these are finally getting released.
  • Great video. Thanks for the early update. Waiting on mine. Sad to hear about the wrench being proprietary.

I watched this video so many times, including the ARC CDG videos. I ended up going with a Solus barreled action in 308 as my first bolt gun. I'm just learning, and the black Friday deal shipped (and FFL charge) I got was less than the ARC CDG msrp. I also didn't have to wait months. I think this is a great starter bolt action. Now shopping for a trigger to go with the Solus in my Woox Furiosa Ultra stock
  • Had no idea this was coming out. Looking forward to getting my hands on one
  • I just added up the cost of building it with a 10 rd magazine vs buying it complete and it looks like building your own saves you about $50. Might as well buy the complete rifle for 2 grand. Unless you have some major parts already laying around like a barrel or a trigger, or both. Edit, I forgot the proprietary wrench, so I don't know how much that would cost.
  • How do we feel about the aero chassis? Timber creek released one too. Just looking for something different than what everyone has.
  • I have one and think bang for the buck it’s an amazing action, Aero keep making great products.
  • Ive spent a ton of money on Aero AR-15 parts and rifles in my day. Ive sent countless friends and family to Aero for their first builds. Ive owned several Bighorn (now Zermatt) actions in the past and happy yo see that Aero went with those type barrels for their prefits. Good choice. Well done @AeroPrecision
  • Great video. Where can I get more info on this build? I have built ars and this looks interesting!
  • @shirolee
Thanks for putting this video together!
  • If you are using the nut, you don't need an action wrench, just a barrel vise. I have put barrels on several actions that have nuts, using the proper GO gauge and they all tested perfect after things were tight. All you need to do is put the nut wrench on before you put the barrel in the vise, spin on the aciton, put in the gauge make the final adjustment and hold the action with your left hand while you tighten the nut with your right. The last one that I did was a Mack Bros, before that A Bighorn, and before that a couple of Savages. On the other hand if you are putting a shouldered barrel on, yes you need their wrench. I will be curious as to its price.

Very interesting. Would have been nice if you showed the bolt action being assembled on to a platform, or at least a clip of of the finished product installed. Good video. Very detailed.
  • So I'm pretty new too this . Well building . So is this essentially a bolt action upper ? I currently have a areo percussion lower and the lower parts kit . Buffer tube and spring and but stock. Just haven't bot an upper and barrel yet. So could I basically build an AR platform bolt action with this ?

What about bottom metal, what does it use to hold the magazines in place?
