Each day the fire moves closer to the South Lake Tahoe area, but it's move into the Basin is far from determined.

  • I lived in in Lake Tahoe for several years both in the north side and the south side. It is a very special place and I hope it is spared from the fires.
  • I live here in South Lake Tahoe and it's only a matter of time now. We are all just sitting ducks, waiting....
  • Tahoe needs to invest in at least two super scoopers. They are expensive but very much worth it
  • If it does reach the Lake or anywhere near it on any side…good luck keeping Tahoe Lake Blue or saving those homes.
  • 15 miles is not that far with the amount of fuel and wind. Look at the Dixie fire that you guys are not reporting on anymore. OR the Beckwourth fire that burned into Nevada

About time they made it a top priority. Tahoe gets 15 million tourist visits each year. More than any other mountain destination in the country. It is the crown jewel of California/Nevada and the US.
  • If there's a way IN, we have to assume that 15 miles will be covered faster than we'd expect. This is discouraging news.

Terrible AQ in Tahoe right now...praying for everyone up there.
  • Six days later 8/30/21 and South Lake Tahoe is evacuated while the fire approaches rapidly and is in the Tahoe Basin. Highly unlikely but he saw the possibility and that is what has taken place.
  • Fast forward to Tonight, Tuesday Aug 14th. Fire is 4 miles from Strawberry. Head of fire is widening. Run up to Twin Bridges is filled with old dead and heavy fuels at 3% moisture. Green materials are at late September levels. Topography and wind favor the continued NE development. No large fires from the last 20 years stand between the fire and SLT. Fire has already burned through numerous fuel breaks, but fuel breaks do not help as much with large fires anyways. Fire is now 120,000 acres. Spot fires can race ahead for miles, and have been. Air assets can not work in the smoke, effectively grounding them for work at the head of the fire. And last but not least, SLT is one of the largest urban wildland interfaces in the country and escape routes are limited by geography. The trap is set.
  • I hope all are prepared to leave if you need to evacuate. Important papers, family albums, etc.. I doesn’t hurt to be prepared in advance. Hope all will be safe.

Stay Safe Tahoe. I see some different comments here but I'm sure if Tahoe had major Fire Insurance Losses we can say good bye to private insurance in CA. The CA Fair Plan is not fair.
  • I was up in Loon Lake the day the fire started on the way up to the lake every half-mile or so there's three story piled up Bunches of logs just waiting for a fire bunch of bulshit
