In the ‘70s, ‘80s, & ‘90s there were few promotional items as prevalent as collectible drink glasses. Fast food joints, cereal makers, department stores, and snack brands were just some of the ways to get these decorative delights.

In this video we’ll look back at some of the history and variety of collectible glasses. So pour some Tang, drop in some ice, and take a nice sip of nostalgia.

One of my favorite glasses is the 70's A&W sets, with their bear mascot. Their orange and brown color scheme fit perfectly with the era.

I pick these up here and there when I see them. Got a really cool '78 Superman movie one at an estate sale for a buck. Not gonna drink out of any of them for sure, but they make great display pieces.

This video hit me kinda hard. My youngest Aunt Donna would get so many of the glasses in this video. She went out of her way to do things like that for us kids. It's been just over a week since she passed, and seeing some of those glasses finally made me cry. Thank you for reminding me of a sweeter time and of a good woman's love of a bunch of brats.

When I was growing up my grandma had Smurf glasses that my cousins, sister, and I would love to drink from, but since they were glass we wound up breaking many of them. One visit as an adult, my wife and I visited a local flea market and found some. We bought them to give to my grandma to replace ones we broke as kids. She told me to keep all of them, including the ones she still had. I have them in a cabinet in our house now. They have new sentimental value since she passed 2 Christmases ago.

Kids now a days will never know the excitement of going to McDonald's or BK and getting glasses and happy meal toys based on the film they where about to go see, streaming killed another piece of Americana!

I remember having a bunch of Welch's glasses growing up. My family had a serious obsession with jelly. Plus with 7 kids in the house (and our friends), you could imagine how fast we would go through that.

Loved this vid, it really takes me back. Growing up, my sibs and I had the Flintstones juice glasses. While those are long gone, I still have all the Star Trek and Star Wars glasses and BKs 1990s Coca Cola glasses.

The Garfield mugs were from 1987. 1978 is the year the Garfield comic strip premiered. I wasn't alive through most of 1978 (I was born December that year) and I remember very well the Garfield promotion. We had the whole set at one time, but most of the glasses ended up breaking. Heck, Garfield's design was completely different in 1987 than it was in 1978.

Had the Great Muppet Caper glasses as well as Empire Strikes back with some others I'm sure. Now have several Smurf glasses, set of the Return of the Jedi glasses and the Happiness Hotel bus glass. Also some Loony Toons glasses floating around here. I think everyone on the planet had those. I can remember going to a friends house and that was the glasses we drank from at dinner.
  • I remember and had at one time or another slot of those glasses. My sister used to always look for a ziggy glass but could never find one before she passed. To this day i can't help but look for it as I pass them in thrift stores. I have a BC cartoon glass and I colected the batman mugs for my son. Thhanks!
