New STAR WARS Figures? Or are these reissues? And what is the mystery of R2 D2's leg detail???

Scott Toy Guru Neitlich from Spector Creatives deep dives into a review of the latest R2 and Vader in Hasbro's Vintage series. Are these new figures, repaints? Reissues?

  • You need a macro lens setup and nice lighting to really show details of small figures on video, but I do appreciate the level of detail you cover.

I’m an 1:1 Astromech builder and I can tell you about the dots and rectangles. The horse shoes on R2s shoulders are magnetic and when you remove them you have access to the bolts that hold the legs to the body, which needed adjusting constantly while filming. As the 2 horseshoes are interchangeable simply by clicking them on. They get mixed up and in several scenes in ANH they swap places.

Hi Scott, It might help to have a white sheet background and have the camera focused on the figures while you talk through all the differences. It would make it so much easier to follow. Just a suggestion.

Las Vegas Walmart had TVC Vader, Stormtrooper and Luke X-Wing all at the same time for $16.99 each. All the stormtrooper cards have some defects that look as they were damaged by other figures in the case. Hasbro should have used a paper layer and not just pack figures next to each other.
  • They most likely built a bunch of identical legs for the movies and just mounted one on each side of R2 so one of them would appear to be in a reverse direction to the other

Not sure why the original TVC ANH R2-D2 keeps being referred to as 'muddy', the deco represents post-battle of Yavin damage.

This issue really does drive me nuts..it's like the star wars equivalent of Iphones..always a new one..or is it? how many Vaders have been released in the last few years? 3 ..4? how many do we need? LOL..thanks Scott.

Scott can you do a video explaining how an existing metal mold is modified? There is a new 4 pack of the vintage collection “night troopers” that use the existing most recent stormtrooper body, but they somehow have red bands tied around their bodies, and the bands are sculpted on to the body, not separate elements. Are they entirely new parts sculpted or was the mold itself modified? thanks

I saw this R2D2 in my GameStop the other day. I took look at it closely & yes it looks very similar the force link one i have already. Except theres catch; paint un the leg wheels, different colored wires from the feet. And the back of the cardback shows the body is supposed be painted black certain parts of the front. I didn't get it because I buy things i need for my collection, not things I don't for my collection. If I wan r2d2 I don't have ill buy the original kenner ver. From the 70's. I don't have that one. Nor do I have an original kenner Chewbacca yet. I just paid for retro collection Yoda today. Its the kenner originals that encourage you keep going. And now that retro collection Yoda has been bought i now have complete empire strikes back 2020 retro collection assortment. Aside from Chewbacca, r2 & 3po. And ben kenobi. And the snow trooper, and the at at commander. And the bespin guard, and the imperial commander. Yes thats way too many. I can't keep track of. But I love the original vintage retros as i love modern equally. And it is expensive keep buying these characters over n over again.

Scott, I recommend using better lighting and a better camera to show such minor details. If you are using a smartphone, the front facing camera tends to be weaker, so it's not an optimal solution.
  • Unless it has a trick or a gimmick, can any of the Artoos be that different from one another?

Forget R2’s leg bolts positions. What Hasbro screws up more often than not on R2 is failing to paint the top center circle of his dome blue. Go back and look at all your R2s and count how many Hasbro did with a plain silver top center instead of the correct top blue center. To me that’s more maddening than all the other inconsistencies. Fortunately, this very newest release that just came out has the top center painted blue. The one it’s actually replacing in the TVC series (same card art and VC#) with the dirt weathering has a top center plain silver…🤦🏻‍♂️.

Based on the squares/rectangle screenshots, I think you just bought a sequel movie figure. So much for only collecting original trilogy, haha.
  • @Supermuttt
What are your thoughts on the continuing MOTU Origins lines, and the Turtles of Grayskull at retail?
  • @MTB214
I wouldn’t have thought of this error but don’t put it past Disney for it.
  • @polarboy5862
Do you actually watch these things before you post them? You are trying to show a minor detail in a bunch of very similar figures and you do this holding the figures in your hands, covering the details as often as not, the figures are constantly drifting in and out of shot, the video quality and the lighting are very ordinary. You can't even keep track of which figure is which. This is the channel you use to impress potential clients to your product marketing business.
