I'm an auto mechanic that loves woodworking lol my shop looks strange to most ppl. You can fix a car or build furniture in the same place 🤷🏾‍♂️🤣
  • @MickFrosty
So I'm running a trim carpentry/painting business while living out of my car. I'm lucky to have a friend who let's me store my tools in his basement but it's a struggle. Just grinding hard and doing what I can to get ahead.
  • #6 really is important. When I was a plumber, I would get big jobs that would require large parts purchases prior to beginning the project and more than once I had a commercial customer attempt to stiff the company on the bill. We finally just made it policy that any job over $800 required a 50% down payment for materials at the time of scheduling and it pretty much stopped all the shady customers.
  • Awesome job Matt. Having a supportive spouse is key when you're a person with a family

Matt, your encouragement for people to write down their goals is outstanding. I found long ago that when I write things I want to accomplish, they happen, and if I don’t they never seem to not get done. It took me a long time to realize this, and now at 77, it still works.

Yesterday, I watched your Wen drill press review from 4 years ago. Looking around your shop, I was really appreciative of how far you've come. Blessings! Rock on!

Sawdust start ups is well worth it. I signed up not long ago and have learned a lot in a short amount of time. Highly recommended if you are on the fence to try it out!
  • I really appreciate the encouragement, I have at least two businesses that I'm interested in starting and every time someone says just start, I feel motivated.

Amazing video and guidance. I'm an early stage entrepreneur starting a tech company, but also looking at a potential woodworking side hustle. Your guidance not only applies for a woodworking startup, but across the board any startup. This video gave me a lot of knowledge and inspiration. Thank you for sharing!

You should discuss growing a business without debt. Cash flow problems cause more business failures than about anything else.

Great advice Matt!! I have about 4 years left before I can retire from my LEO career. I've been slowly collecting tools to hopefully start a part-time woodworking income and transition to a full time job after I retire. Glad the Lord has blessed you with doing what you love.
