Join us on this episode as we drive from Guatemala City to Lanquín as we start our epic adventure in Semuc Champey!

The drive ended up taking about 8 hours due to traffic and construction, I've heard it can be much longer though. you have to realize it's only 167 miles (273 km), which is the same distance driving from Austin to Houston, which can easily be done in under 3 hours.

I Love driving in Guatemala because there are so many things to see along the way. We found some amazing pull-offs with a great views, restaurants, and other fun stops.

I was a bit nervous driving that far (since I'm a gringo American) not really knowing what to expect, but we felt safe the entire trip, we had great cell phone signal along the way, and Google Maps and Waze we're spot on with directions. We saved $1,000 or more by driving ourselves versus having a travel guide take us.
