Think your house could withstand winds of 150 miles per hour? This one and 5,000 others like it can. In 2018, Bonnie Paulson settled into her new home in Mexico Beach, Florida, when Hurricane Michael struck with devastating force. Her neighborhood was flattened, except for her home, which was the only house left standing. Deltec Homes, the company that designed Bonnie’s hurricane-proof home, says they are built to be twice as strong as the typical house, and are aerodynamically shaped. #InsideEdition

This should be the standard for all homeowners living in tornado/ hurricane hot spots.

This level of design consideration should be mandated in areas with frequent natural disasters. Its like the government never learns and just tries the same thing over and over

Exactly. Building houses like this should be mandatory in areas periodically affected by hurricanes. Surely, the logistics can be worked out somehow.

Whoa, if a Big Bad Wolf can't blow down a brick house, neither a hurricane can't blow down this one of a kind house.

I actually like the rounded interior, it's aesthetically pleasing and feels less like I'm in the typical cubicle designed to cage humans en masse.

No scratch, no broken window, less damage on rooftop. Maybe they should build this kind of house for this kind of hurricane so nobody have to move one and another.
  • I've been saying this for years! Round is the only way to build in hurricane prone area's!!! It's total common sense!

Imagine being in this house while being in a literal hurricane and just sleeping.

You know her neighbors feel bitter that she made it through while their homes were leveled. She’s on the porch chilling while they’re calling their insurance company.
  • @solless2504
The guy who built the house probably got so many calls when everybody saw her house was the only one standing😂😂

The fact that homes aren't designed like this everywhere is actually lunacy. It probably the best investment against extreme weather caused by climate change
  • @eisusdyfo714
This should be mandatory for all people in areas prone to damaging weather.
  • @CaliKiwi-
So why isn’t it mandatory to design commiserate to location? Insurance companies should be mandating this design for rebuilds.
  • @Ackee-ologist
That's how arawaks used to build their thatched houses in the Caribbean. Ancient design but it's still practical for that type of climate.

When I visited the USA I was surprised with a lot of homes. They're borderline cardboard boxes
  • @Frenite
It’s obviously not a visually appealing house, but it gets the job done and can withstand these huge hurricanes. She knew what she wanted and it worked for her.
  • @JayDays.
I cant imagine how the producer felt when they asked her to say "my house survived the hurricane"
  • @Capricegirl_
As someone who studies architecture, I’d say this is really clever!

America needs to learn. Like Japan with their Earthquake resistant buildings. And areas with flooding have house on stilts. In hot climates building homes higher off the ground to allow cool air flow. Hurricane prone areas need houses like these. America needs to step up its game. Good on the lady for making a sound investment.
